COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some may call this a malty double IPA, some a hoppy barley wine. We prefer that it not be classified. We think of it, simply, as our strong winter ale. Intense hop aromatics and flavor (think pine, candied orange) blended with just enough malt sweetness to balance out the palate. Vitals: Color – Mahogany ABV – 9.1% O.G. – 1.080 Malt – American 2-Row, Marris Otter, Victory, Carapils, Caramel 80, Midnight Wheat Hops –Centennial, Simcoe, Cascade, Falconer’s Flight

Bottle. Pours an almost completely opaque dark amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, pine, with a caramel background. Taste is medium-heavy bitter, medium sweet, some alcohol as well. Finish is bitter and alcoholic. Full bodied, syrupy texture. Not bad at all, but not their best effort.

Courtesy of Lukaduke. Bottled 11/14/13. The pour is a murky reddish-brown color with a big frothy khaki head on top. Great lacing. Lots of citrus rind in the scent that’s joined by caramel and pine. Smooth going down and lighter in the body than expected. Some toasty biscuit and sweet caramel malt underneath a hefty dose of citrus hops. Slightly sticky mid palate with pine and lingering malt before drying out in the finish, accompanied by a sharp bitterness. I’m not much into huge American Barleywines or Strong Ales these days but this is more like a Double IPA and glides along nicely. Not an overly complex brew but well done. I think I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had from Maine Beer Company.

Pours dark orange with a citrus and earthy aroma. Strong flavors of pine, caramel and citrus but quite balanced. Finishes sweet with a hint of booze. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 mL bottle from Whole Foods P Street. Gorgeous deep blood orange colored pour with a vivacious white head. Nose and flavor are absolutely lovely; tangerine, sweet kumquat, spruce tip, hints of peach and earthen loam, scallion, and garlic. Love the addition of Falconer’s Flight to add that slightest new-age change. Reminds me of an imperial Zoe but with more fruit character brought out by the malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is gorgeous; actually quite lean for the first 50% of the sip, then the slight malty richness and 9.1% ABV shows itself en route to the finish. Scary drinkable. Really beautifully done.

Bottle via StateLine... I am pretty much down for anything these guys produce... This brew smells hoppy. hummmmm...that smells good. Malty as well. Closer to a barleywine smell than a DIPA. Great lacing left on the glass. Decent head. Taste reminds me up 3F Behemoth barlyewine... Taste is a big hoppy, malty monster... Tons of hops, bitter with a little sweetness. But still malty with some flower characteristics. Smooth... If someone told me this was aged for 5 years I would of believed them. Silky smooth, really easy to drink but the alcohol is warming and not harsh.. Overall: Top level brew not matter what you call it. Get some!

Cloudy ambery pour from bottle. Big sticky white head. Spicy hops, band aids, pine needle aroma. Malts, choppy resin taste. Lingering bitterness. Good.

Cherry-amber body shows a high clarity, leaving the sediment behind. White head is mostly receding.
Didn’t read anything about this beer before trying it, which was pretty fun, no expecations. Double IPA in the nose. Bold, resinous, juicy hops provide white grapefruit, peaches, cherries and tons of pine. I do like the cherry/peach combo, obviously a liberal use of very fresh hops at the end. Malt is full of caramel, but seems nicely attenuated, nothing sugary or syrupy/cloying here. Medium to medium-high strength of aroma. Some alcohol/ester burn, ever so slight.
Full on hop bomb flavor. Very bitter citrus, with tons of dry, bready malt and a very supple body thanks to an appropriate amount of maltiness and a lighter carbonation. Not boozy, which is great, but an obnoxious amount of bitterness. It certainly provides an enjoyable hop flavor as well, but it’s a bit too brash without as much complexity as I’d hope for. The cherry/grapefruit flavor is nice, but let’s see some more tropical fruit and some more depth of malt.

Bottle. Pours hazy reddish amber with a medium creamy beige head that sticks around and laces very nicely. Aroma is a pleasing blend of pine, grapefruit, citrus, just a touch of grass and caramel to keep it honest, along with some passionfruit. Flavor is light plus sweet and medium bitter, citrus pine caramel flavors all melding together. Finish is fairly bitter, but just short of harsh. Full body and creamy mouthfeel. ABV very well hidden, perhaps a bit of burn in the far finish to give it away. Yum!

Fresh dry pine hop aroma. Amber color with sudsy off white head. Sweet malt body with significant pine dry hoppy flavor, much like an IPA. Notes: on tap at the brewery ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
