COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Some may call this a malty double IPA, some a hoppy barley wine. We prefer that it not be classified. We think of it, simply, as our strong winter ale. Intense hop aromatics and flavor (think pine, candied orange) blended with just enough malt sweetness to balance out the palate. Vitals: Color – Mahogany ABV – 9.1% O.G. – 1.080 Malt – American 2-Row, Marris Otter, Victory, Carapils, Caramel 80, Midnight Wheat Hops –Centennial, Simcoe, Cascade, Falconer’s Flight

Hazy copper color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, fruit, & some citrus; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, toffee/caramel, hops, fruit, and some citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; I’m really impressed with this brewery - quite good.

keanex (1395) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - MAR 26, 2013
Bottled January 31, 2013.
Appearance: The body is hazy with an iced tea complexion and color to it. The head is thin and creamy and quickly settles into a bubbly coating.
Aroma: On the pour a strong aroma of sweet citrus and pine was prominent, but after sitting for a moment some malts appear with a light grassy and lemon aroma.
Taste: This is balanced great with a strong malt base that balanced out the assertive hop bitterness. Flavors of sweet citrus, grapefruit, and pine come to mind with a slight alcohol heat on the finish..
Palate: Thick and chewy with light carbonation, but not lacking. It’s the perfect amount.
Overall: I align this with the maltier IIPAs like Maharaja more than a barleywine. It’s really splitting hairs though. This is one of the more impressive Maine Beers I’ve had and it’s certainly worth a try. I like this.

Bottle. Pours lightly hazy orange with a large, frothy and bubbly light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is fragrant floral, citrus and grapefruit hops with mango, peach, and pineapple fruity esters, and biscuit, honey malt. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness with sweet malt, tropical fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Location/Date:Bottle on March 12th, 2013.

Appearance:Pours a copper cloud.
Aroma: Aroma of caramel, faint hop, grapefruit/orange.
Taste: Medium bitterness that is present but not killer, lots of caramel, faint orange/grapfruit.
Palate:Medium body, slightly sticky, lingering aftertaste.

Summary: Yet another tasty beer from Maine Beer Company...I don’t know how you’d classify this beer, it’s kind of a hoppy red ale, kind of a barleywine, all tasty.

Tasted about in between arrogant bastard and double bastard...big malt red with a lot of hops all over, in the nose, palate and a big bitter finish. A lot to of character, and a big mouthfeel. Good stuff

Bottle @ home via trade with Lukaduke. Thanks! Pours a hazy, dark reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head. Very spicy, garlic, onion, piney hoppy, a bit citrusy, thick toasty malty, caramel aroma. Bready, huge caramel, slightly roasty malty, herbal, very spicy, piney hoppy, intense flavor with some bitterness on the finish but its well contained. Tasty like all of Maine’s beers but probably not of my favorites from them.

bottle. hoppy strong winter ale! dank hops, backed by a big potent sweet greape, overipe melons, sweet cognac like booze note. sweet plumy malts intermingle with a dank resin hop presence. a touch grassy. coats the mouth. good, but a bit too sticky candesque for my liking. not my favorite from the awesome maine beer lineup, but decent.

500ml bottle in a tulip. Pours brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of floral and citrusy hops, a lot of toasted and cereal notes from the malts, a little caramel/toffee, and some dough. Flavor the same, with a nice toffee finish. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

500ml bottle from once upon a vine, dated 1/31/13. pours a hazy, golden orange capped by a fluffy beige head that leaves thick sheets of lace on the glass. aroma is great with a very unique blend of citrus hop notes of orange zest, pink grapefruit, and lemons backed by sweet honey, tree sap, brown sugar, and gummy candy with hints of earth, pine, and soap as it warms. flavor is deliciously sweet with heavy notes of candied fruits, nougat, sugar coated pink grapefruit, and orange creamsicles backed by toasted nuts, dry malts, and hints of toffee. palate is full bodied with light carbonation and a lingering, dry, bitter finish. overall, a very interesting and tasty american strong ale.
