Some may call this a malty double IPA, some a hoppy barley wine. We prefer that it not be classified. We think of it, simply, as our strong winter ale. Intense hop aromatics and flavor (think pine, candied orange) blended with just enough malt sweetness to balance out the palate. Poured from a 500 ml bottle thanks to lukaduke. Thanks man! Pours a semihazy copper with a white head of bubbly foam. Aroma is dank pine with a spicy sweet malt backbone. Taste is a clean hop bitterness with lots of pine. Really nice and clean. Super drinkable, especially for its gravity. So good.

Pouts a cloudy dark amber color with golden copper edges and a two finger, frothy off-white head that has excellent retention, only slowly fading into a thick lasting ring. Large streaks and chunks of soapy lacing left behind. Earthy aroma that’s similar to an American barleywine with a nice balance of resinous hops, vinous fruit and a complex, leathery and sweet malt bill. Slightly floral, earthy hop character with lots of grass, pine needle and spruce tip countered by a strong malt backbone. Hints of old leather and soil followed by spicy rye, caramel malt, toffee, fig and raisin. The earthy hop and malt characters play off of each other nicely but they dominate the sweeter notes a bit too much in the nose. On the fuller end of medium bodied with a blast of sticky, earthy hops that provide a ton of dry bitterness that lingers over the leathery and sweet malt notes into a bone dry finish. The hop profile is one dimensional with very bitter, tongue coating dryness that is a bit overwhelming. Dirty and soil like with a ton of grass and pine flavor countered by spicy rye, leather, toffee and subtle vinous fruit. The caramel malt sweetness and vinous dark fruit notes found in the aroma are almost completely overpowered. The high ABV is well masked with only a touch of heat and alcohol sweetness but this beer is still tough to drink and is in desperate need of some balance. Not a bad beer but it lacks complexity and drinking all 16.9oz was a bit of a chore.

Pours hazy copper with low white head. Aroma of caramel, resin, citrus, toffee and vanilla. Taste is initial hop bitter followed by rich caramel sweetness before a lightly resinous lingering finish. Medium rich, smooth body with average carbonation.

smells of alcohol and caramel and maybe some butterscotch as well as some other aromas I can’t put my finger on. Color is deep amber. Medium to heavy bodied beer. You get some hops up front with a sweet finish. I feel like there are some indistinct spices and dark fruits in there as well. This is certainly an impressively complex beer and it deserves credit where its due, but it’s just not my personal favorite. Apparently I just don’t like "strong ales". I think I’ll stick to the 5-7 ABV range

From the 500 ml bottle dated 031315. Murky looking medium amber pour under a delicate, lingering tan head. The aroma is all at once sweet caramel malts, earthy hops, floral hops, and orange zest. No booze for over 9%. Bold taste of roasted barley malts and earthy, fruity hops but neither overpowers the other. Very nice.

Bottle at Lucky Owl. Pours clear lighter orange, khaki head. Nose is piney, lots of caramel malts. Sweeter and heavier bodied but a fair amount of tasty DPA characteristics. Distinctive heavier American strong crossover ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Labeled as a double IPA. Somewhat sweet. Fairly hoppy. At the brewery in a sampler.

500mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours a beautiful opaque orange amber with a medium beige head. Nose is kind of confused, with bready malts and obscured hops. Flavour brings out dark fruits, resinous hops, and caramel malts. Not the most complex beer, surprisingly, but well-balanced and full-bodied. Overrated, but very good.

Piney, citrus hop aroma with notes of caramel and high alcohol notes. Appearance is a hazy copper with an off white head with good lacing and retention. Flavor has bright notes of pine and citrus with a clean bitterness and a complex malt flavor of toasted bread, biscuit and toffee. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, it's a good hybrid between an American barleywine and a malty double IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark amber with an inch of condensed-milk-colored, medium-coarse head that is medium-slow to fade. Aroma is citrus: orange and grapefruit, some mango, pineapple, and guava. Some floral notes undergird. Body is medium-medium-light, starchy, somewhat oily, medium-light, soft carbonation with light burn. Flavor is guava, some orange/grapefruit (on the sweeter side), floral notes, green grass bitterness and mild green herb. Super smooth and actually light on the bitterness for an IPA (hence the strong-ale categorization) but surprisingly light on malt sweetness. I would call this an excellent imperial amber!

Pours a deep, dark amber color. Murky. Aroma is definitely on the drier hop side. Hops, pine, grass, leaves all come to mind. Heavy palate. Flavors are of bitter sweet hops, orange, and some earthiness. Leaves a bittersweet dry hopped finish. Very good stuff!!!
