Smells very light hoppy, dark ale with little to no head after it settles down. Taste is initially citrusy hops but a lot of coffee comes through and lingers. Very solid dark ale.

Bottle (thanks to goodbyeohio for sharing)... Poured black with a thin, khaki head. Some good retention. Aroma of awesomely dank, earthy, pine-like hops. Hop notes similar in the flavor with a good balance of roast and malt sweetness. Bright citrus, cocoa, roast, mild tobacco note too.

Une black IPA qui sort de l’ordinaire, j’aime son corps et le gout rond qui reste en bouche.

Draft pour. Excellent deep brown, coffee brown color. Has a fantastic roasty note on the nose. This beer gives your tastebuds a real going over, from the big punch off the hops to the chocolate malty profile which dominates without overpowering this brew. A fantastic brew, and one that defies categorization.

Bottle. The pour is black. The aroma is strong malt and chocolate. The taste is very solid. Nails the dark ale type spot on. The taste is spot on for chocolate and a mild malt. Thumbs up ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle while in DC for a conference. Pours a jet black with big brown head. This is not at all black IPA like. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is much the same with some shoe leather and hay. Nothing about this is hop forward. Call it a stout/porter.

Pours a luscious, opaque cocoa brown with yolky, tan head. Aromas are actually quite subtle. Piney hops ,a little lactic (chocolate milk), caramel and mocha. Does not assert itself with any dominant or overbearing flavors, but everything comes together nicely. Good balance of bittering vs. aroma hops. Finishes nice, clean, mildly diluted. Differentiates itself within the Black IPA style but does not come close to Wookey Jack, which is the gold standard in my opinion.

500ml bottle from Julio’s.
Appearance : Pitch black with big foamy brown head.
Aroma : Great citrusy and piny notes with nice floral notes. Some coffee and light chocolate. Big pine needles but not too resinous nor oily.
Taste : Great roasted malt with coffee and piny hops. Finish malty with piny hops. Floral and resinous finish. Persistent coffee and piny notes. Juicy citrusy notes on the fininsh. Light astringency on the bitterness... bitter coffee more than bitter hops.
Palate : Soft but lively carbonation... fizzy but brief. Hard to explain but really enjoyable.
Overall : Really nice beer. A great example of the style. Really well balanced and tasteful. Pretty drinkable and light for a 7 abv beer. Really nice appearance and palate. Another great beer from Maine Beer Co.

Pours out a dark dark brown with a sizeable creamy beige head. Aroma is pine needles, burnt firewood, grass hop, cocoa, roasted malt, some currants / dark fruit. Flavor is full of piney hop, dark roasted malt, chocolate, smokey, citrus rinds shine through as well.. finishes on bitter pine hop. Medium body, very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours out dark brown with a moderate tan head. Nose is of tropical/citrusy fruit hops, chocolate malt, light toast and some medium roast coffee. Taste is complex, some really nice oily citrus and fruity hops, mild semi sweet chocolate, light toasty flavors and a punchy bitterness in the finish. Complex, smooth and silky. Yum
