Benzai (12763) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - APR 2, 2016
Bottle [from trade with Abitker] @ home shared with Caesar. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized brown colored head. Both aroma and flavor are a very nice mix of malts, lightly chocolate malts, roast and hops. Malts and hops blended together incredibly well, perfectly balanced. Medium body and suitable carbonation. Rightfully in the Black IPA top 50 if you ask me.

A deep dark black ipa with a super luscious thick frothy brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with coffee grind, musty floral hops, grapefruit pulp, very fragrant. In mouth, a nice bitter sweet chocolate with coffee grind, musty character, resinous floral hops with citrusy notes, predominantly bitter chocolate. Bottle dated 08-06-2013. Excellent condition.

Bottle at home. Pours clear opaque black with a large, frothy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is earthy, pine, floral, and minty hops, roast and chocolate malt, prunes and figs. Flavor is lightly tart dark fruit, moderate hops and bitterness, light malt bitterness, light smoke notes, somewhat earthy and a dry finish. Medium-full body and medium carbonation.

Scopey (11957) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2013
Bottle, thanks to Leighton at the Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting. It pours near black with a gigantic light tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, chocolate, light ash, dark fruit, cocoa, caramel and toffee. The taste is roasted malt, toasty, very bitter, peppery, dark chocolate, earthy, resin, charcoal and coffee grinds with a dry, damn bitter finish. Medium body, moderate+ carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Good body. A big, tasty Black IPA. Another win for Maine Beer Co.

Smells almost exactly liek another one aside form a nice hit of roast. Color is different, obviously dark brown with a frothy tan head as opposed ot the lighter counterpart. The mouthfeel is sparkly yet maybe slicker. Flavor has a huge chocolate component which may or may not coincide wiht the hops depending in your palate.

Fresh bottle. Bang on black IPA. The roastiness lasts as aftertaste a day later. Black and roasty aroma. Good drinkability.

Bottle @ Armin’s apartment, courtesy of lukaduke. Thanks Luke! Pours a deep brown appearance with a brown head. Very roasty, a bit charred, lightly smoky, slightly minty/sprucey aroma. Dark chocolate, somewhat charred, fairly spicy, piney/sprucey, fairly dry, light citrus flavor. Nice brew.
