Half liter bottle from Beer Run. Pours a near black color with a large foamy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus hops, roast and chocolate. The taste is intense roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, with a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied, decent balance. Another great beer from these guys.

Craft Clerkenwell, Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting, massive thanks to Leighton 1 for a CDA 2 for a Maine Beer offering, 17/09/13. Light black with a medium sized tan head, good lacing ensues. Nose is roasted malt, mineral tones, cocoa, earthy, piney tones. Taste comprises earthy hops, pine, grass, cocoa, bitter grapefruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish combining hop bitterness and a piney tang in perfect harmony. Top notch CDA !

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours black with brown head. Nose and taste of dark roast, pine, burnt coffee, burnt chocolate malt and citrus rind. Medium body. A touch chalky.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours hazy dark brown with 3-finger clingy tan head. Nose was heavy resiny hops, roasty choc malt, cacao. Tastes roasty choc malty, with resiny hops, charred malt at mid-palate, and a hoppy almost tart finish.

MartinT (7677) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 24, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Rich coffee, dark chocolate and pumpernickel bread moments are emboldened by precise piney and earthy hopping, creating a somptuous Black IPA/Stout middle world.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the blackness.
-There is no sense of abv in the flavor profile.
-The finish is quite roasty and coniferous.
-Mouthfeel is luxurious yet not too heavy.

Bottle.

Smells almost exactly liek another one aside form a nice hit of roast. Color is different, obviously dark brown with a frothy tan head as opposed ot the lighter counterpart. The mouthfeel is sparkly yet maybe slicker. Flavor has a huge chocolate component which may or may not coincide wiht the hops depending in your palate.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a huge thick tan head. Big roasty cocoa and a lovely citrus hop note, soft and delicate. Medium bodied, big cocoa and roasty malt. Lots of dark chocolate notes, cocoa and some spicy hop resins. Big cocoa over a long quinine and grapefruit filled bitterness. Lovely.

Bottle, shared with Parksy, just inside the best before date. Near black pour topped by a lively brown head. Smells like a pine forest, coniferous perfumes permeate the air. Very hop-forward profile, tons of fresh pine, underlying roast malts are there if you’re looking. Full bodied, very bitter. Beautiful.

500 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm, who got it from sloth- thanks again, Chris and Bert! Bottled 9/3/13. Pours a deep, opaque brown with a big rocky tan head that laces the glass. Aroma of earthy, piney hops, roasted and toasted malts, dark chocolate, and leaves. The flavor pretty much follows suit. Medium-bodied, with a bitter, toasty, dry mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nice black IPA.

Bottle, thanks to Leighton at the Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting. It pours near black with a gigantic light tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, chocolate, light ash, dark fruit, cocoa, caramel and toffee. The taste is roasted malt, toasty, very bitter, peppery, dark chocolate, earthy, resin, charcoal and coffee grinds with a dry, damn bitter finish. Medium body, moderate+ carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Good body. A big, tasty Black IPA. Another win for Maine Beer Co.
