50 cl bottle @ tiong, bottled 10.07.2014
Aroma is rather nice with lots of fruity hops, grapefruit and some licorice. Flavour has lots of hops, grapefruit, ash, some licorice and nettles. Usually I don’t like CDAs where roastiness is left behind the hops, but this was good. I’d smoke this everyday.

500 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a dark cola brown to almost black with a large khaki head. The aroma and flavor have some dark burnt malts, almost smoky. Additional notes of chocolate, earth, mild bittering hops. Hints of coffee. Pretty solid black ipa.

[Bottle (500ml) shared with HogTownHarry, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size frothy light-brown head. Aroma of toasted malt, light leafy hops and some coffee. Nice flavour of toasted malt, some coffee,a good amount of leafy hops and a medium bitter finish. medium bodied. Quite good.

16.9 oz bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks good; a cloudy coffee with light beige lacing. Smells good too; dark malt and bitter hops with a bit of bittersweet chocolate. Tastes like it smells, only not quite as robust. Nice and smooth on the palate. A good Black IPA.

September 9, 2014 - shared by J&K with me and blankboy. 500ml bottle. Inky black pour, smallish lasting frothy tan head. Lovely roast and herbal bitter aroma taste follows, but a little stale and milky. Average body, light carbonation, medium bitter finish - I am not a huge fan of the style, but this is pretty solid - and past its best before date too!

In short: A highly roasted and very hoppy (citrusy piney) Black IPA. Good example of the style.
How: Bottle 500ml, consumed fresh soon after purchase.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with good retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is unmistakably Black IPA with roast, chocolaty notes and a whole lots of citrusy and piney hops. As it is often the case with Black IPAs I found the mix of roast and hops created something a bit perfumy. In mouth the beer has a full body, a somewhat grainy texture and a very active carbonation. Taste is scorched malts, burnt black cake, notes of chocolate, an assertive hopping (citrusy & piney). High roast level contributes to a rather dry finish. Maybe a little too roasted but I’m nitpicking, this is a fine Black IPA. January 1rst, my first rating of the year, I am wishing myself great beer year and also that my dyselxia gets better in 1041.

Bottle from the brewery shared with Linh, Minh and Angela. Pours a black body with thin lacing. Aroma is fresh pine hop and coffee roast. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet roast, coffee and light pine. This is way closer to a roasty porter with a hop character as opposed to a black IPA. But whatever.

4/III/14 - 1Pt. 9Fl. Oz. bottle @ home - bottled: 12/31/13 (2014-245) Thanks to ajax25g for sharing the bottle!

Very dark brown to black beer, irregular fizzy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive. Aroma: smoky, ashes, bit fishy (no really, smells like fish gone bad, we smelled it with three persons), caramel, mocha, coffee, dried fruits. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: citrus, fruity start, pineapple, bit soky, cocoa powder, hoppy, sour touch. Aftertaste: bit sour, very bitter hops, ashes, dry, medicinal bitterness, bit smoky, charcoal, coffee grit, way too roasted for me. I would categorize this as a hoppy stout, not a black IPA.
