COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Released in honor of our two-year anniversary on November 21, 2010. Dry mead aged in an old bourbon barrel, which was previously used to age Sam Adams’ famous Utopias beer. Complex aroma of vanilla, clove, and toasted sugars with just a hint of bourbon. The flavor is smooth, yet intense with a subtle kick that warms the throat. The honey comes through nicely in the finish. Best enjoyed at room temperature. Only 19 cases bottled.

Taste from a 750 ml bottle at the meadery. Had I known how limited this was compared to the others I probably would have bought one in addition to the Blueberry, Lavender, and Strawberry Meads I purchased. Anyway, it pours a clear gold color with legs and no visible carbonation. Aroma of oak, bourbon, vanilla, honey, clove, and cider. Didn’t quite pop at the level I thought it would, but still very nice, balanced, and complex. Flavor followed suit but leaned more heavily on the honey and vinous notes than the bourbon barrel. The barrel notes came later and as it warmed, and it finishes with some nice warming of the palate and throat. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, warming, sweet mouthfeel and finish. Impressive job on the first Reserve edition.
