(swing top bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a slightly beige foamy white head of medium size. Sweet toast-malty, slightly dusty nose with a rural barnyard character, light notes of caramel and only shy traces of hops. Moderately sweet, light-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dark malty, toasty taste with a moderate note of caramel; sweet-bitter, slightly hoppy finish. Nothing special and almost mediocre, but solid enough to be pretty drinkable.

On tap at the brauhaus in Maisach - 17/07/12. Mid brown with a dollop of beige head. Malt forward nose, sweetish toffee/caramel backdrop. Taste marries aroma with a little nutiness and a bitter flavour. Medium bodied and typical carbonation for the style.

The most lovely glowing amber you can think of. Grain, caramel, marzipan. With more hops, this would have been world class.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2009 Sweet malty and hop aroma, also a sour-dough note. Golden brown, big creamy head, low on visible carbonation. Fat malty and doughlike. Dry grassy aftertaste. Medium body, well-lagered prickling carbonation in mouth.

swing top bottle 500ml. -at Brauhaus Wiesmühl, Engelsberg, Bavaria, Germany.
Clear cooper coloured, medium sized off-white head, roasty nose. Roasted malt, sweet caramel and nutty taste with notes of barnyard and coffee. Not so dry as I’ve expected. Good dunkel.

Bottle by 26.03.12. Nose of dark sweet malt with a little minerally yeast. Blood red body with a creamy tan head [I’m looking at a full half liter against a white wall, and then with a light behind it, and anyone who calls this something other than ’red’ is either having problems with color recognition in a dark pub or should stop drinking so quickly]. Taste sweet with tarry caramel and light bitterness, sticky fullish body with a little bit of airy yeast. Herbal with a touch of pepper and tang, the roast and toffee act as a base but with no flourish. Rather enjoyed this one, but there is a slight cloying medicinal note and on the hole it doesn’t really stand out from the crowd.
