UPDATED: AUG 1, 2003 Bottled. I found this in a convenience store at the Doral Building on Michigan Avenue, tucked behind the Coors Light tallboys. Tasted it on the train home, since the rush hour schedule wouldn't let me stop over at Flossmoor Station. Drank this from the bottle, so I couldn't tell the color well. But drinking from the bottle did kick up a nice foamy head inside, and there was a fine coating of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Presented a nice wheaty nose when I opened the bottle. The usual clove and banana tastes only became apparent after the first few sips. Between that was a nice malty sweetness balanced unobtrusively by German hops. Further down the bottle, the lemony taste becomes evident, which builds to a nice tartness as it warms up. All in all, a good, tasty beer to find.

The beer pours a white colored foam, which is quite rough. Almost all the foam disappears like snow in the summer. The beer itself has a orange yellow color, or amber color of you want. The beer is clear like a pilsener, not as cloudy as most weizeners. I wonder if itís filtered. The smell is divine. It is a typical weizener smell. There are very fruity aromaís, of lemon zest, citrus, coriander, and a little hop. There is also a tiny nutty aroma. Donít forget the aroma of bananas. The smell is perfectly weizener, but just very good. The taste is just as good as the smell. There is the same citrus, zest, coriander and banana. And the nutty hint. The beer has a delicious sweet taste. The sweetness doesnít has the overhand though. The beer is balanced well. The beer has a phenomenal palate. The alcohol and bubbles tingle, but the taste makes the beer soft. A very good beer. Iím glad Iíve bought it.

Draft at Bamberger Weissbierhaus during the Bamberg Jolly. Pours cloudy, rich gold with a frothy, white head. Classic stuff. Rich ripe banana character, yeasty wheat bread, light clove. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately sweet on the finish, with hefty wheat bread, further rich banana. Good stuff.

Iím afraid that bottle I had in the restaurant wasnít super fresh. The beer didnít have much of typical hefeweizen notes. I was hoping for explosion of bananas and gloves, didnít get that. It was ok, just ok.

Hazy orange-gold color with a frothy white head. Moderate carbonation. The traditional Weizen aroma draws you in and each sips leaves you wanting more. Hints of fruitiness, but this is not a sweet beer. A well balanced representative of its class.

The aroma is not very rich, but it is classic: a banana, a little yeast. Taste, alas, the same weak, with wheat sour. The finish is fleeting.

Hazy yellow golden. Frothy white head. I really enjoy a good German hefe, and this beer makes me happy. Lighter bodied, semi creamy, with a zing of carbonation. Fruity and spicy but not overboard, and its not all just the usual suspects. Great yeast character. Well rounded and interesting. Plenty going on here. Puts all the brewpub hefes Iíve been having to shame.

Ligght, crisp aroma and taste of citrus, yeast, some musty basement aromas, a little green grass. Light and smooth, delicious beer.

Aroma: intensive banana notes (maybe overripe bananas) and cloves. Appearance: hazy golden color and thin white head. Taste: no bitterness, zesty, a lot of cloves, weak banana notes, quite dry. Palate: medium body and high carbonation, zesty finish. Overall: Really good weizen, very drinkable and refreshing.
