3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 shadey (1618) - Rochester, New York, USA - NOV 3, 2007
Bottle at the Brickskeller in D.C. Poured in a small tasting glass. Golden color with a nice fluffy head of white cream. The aroma is pretty mild, sweet, creamy, spicy, yeast. Attractive but mild. The flavor is smooth, well-blended, toasty and spicy. Pretty nice, easy drinking ale of Belgian character. Incredibly easy to drink for a 10% Belgian.

Bottle. Golden amber beer with a nice off-white head. Rustic, dusty, yeasty/hay aroma. Malty flavor with yeast, lemon/slight orange, and a bit of spice. Medium-plus body with a bit of creaminess. Slight alcohol presence. Lingering orange, yeast, dust. Decent complexity.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 argo0 (9034) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 12, 2005
(Bottle, RBSG05) Explosive on opening, eventually yielding a cloudy lemon yellow body topped by a white head. Aroma is medium sweet, lemon sour, yeasty. Taste is medium sweet, yeasty, lemon, her, light banana, definite yeast. Nice carbonation, light-medium body. Earlier Rating: 5/7/2003 Total Score: 3.2 Hazy apple juice color, with a medium off-white head. Aroma is spicy, apple, acidic, musty. Taste is fruity (apple/pear), acidic and yeasty, with minimal sweetness. Finish has slight bitterness. Alcohol is apparent, but not overwhelming -- has a nice warming effect. Quite dry. Evokes comparison to champagne, though not as sweet. Given that I am not a fan of champagne, this isn't something I relish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JCW (1270) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 12, 2004
I had trouble getting this one to stop foaming. Gold color, slightly hazy, with a frothy white head. Floral aroma, rich in yeast and light Belgian candi sugar. Flavor is dry, some from the hops but mostly from the alcohol. Dry finish.

750 ML bottle: Medium gold w/a lasting white head. Aroma at first is very corkish. Beyond that, grainy malt, floral, and spicy, peppery yeast. Very delicate plummy and dried apricot esters. Still has a decently strong wood cork aroma as it warms, but it’s not over powering. Well balanced flavor. Spicy peppery yeast, grainy malt, floral esters from alcohol, and a very light plum fruitiness. Finish is semi dry with a pleasant earthy hop aftertaste that lingers with the grainy malt. Lighter body, probably due to the very high level of carbonation. Very explosive m/f, smooth, and well hidden alcohol. A good beer, but a bit lacking in complexity for a 10% ABV beer. The hop flavors sort of take over the aftertaste and become a bit herbal and grassy, and I prefer fruity and malty. A good beer for me, but not a great one on my personal palate.

Bottled. Sampled at Delirium Café, Göteborg.
Hazy pale yellow. Fresh, dewy nose with hints of marzipan and pale malts(is it Maris Otter?). Loads of malty marzipan notes in flavour and very malt bitter, in a good sense.
