Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-hued mahogany brown body with a large creamy off-white head with little sustainability. Aroma is mild muscavado sugars, raisins, dark malts and hints of bread. Taste is bready malt tones up front, then sweet raisins, dark sugars and hints of resin and metal in the finish. Full to medium body, fizzy carbonation. The Malheur series doesn’t really hit the sweet spot for me it seems; I like their special editions much better.

33 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours dark brown with a two finger light brown head. Leaves a nice lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, cherries, brown sugar and dark malts. Flavour is dark fruits, figs, raisins with some sweet and alcohol notes. Full body, medium carbonation, medium bitterness. Well balanced.

Pours amber brown, small head. Nice aromas of dried fruits, nuts, some chocolate. In the mouth sweet-bitter, with chocolate, hazelnut, toffe and dried frut. Good concentration with lots of nice bubbles. A nicely put together abbey style brew.

Bottle pours a hazy amber brown with a very thick light brown head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, and rich malt. Tastes great for 12%. Figs, toffee, a bit of barley-wine sweetness, nicely balanced yeast.

I found Malheur 12 among the Belgians. It is smooth, no excessive wine notes, even at this strength. Yeast fruit balances well with hop and malt. A very nice very big beer.

bottle @ Poechenellekelder.

On tap at Somerset Hills. Rich, black mahogany. Dry with a gentle touch of hops, slightly floral notes. Cannot taste ABV. Nice beer.
