Beer looks black as night. Smells like a bushel of cherries. Taste is of cherries and some wild raspberries. Makes my tummy happy. Probably will go well with my poutine!

6th May 2007 Warning! Early amateur rating! A very dark ale. Crisp palate. Nice flavour but marred by a long bitter malt finish. Lacks the drinkability of its ’Dark’ sibling.

Bottle. Typical Belgium strong ale in aroma and flavor. Seems heavily carbonated with a slightly metallic aftertaste. Overall a nice brew.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm, 15 Dec 2010) Dark reddish brown colour with huge, frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, prunes and dark bread. Alcohol well hidden. Malty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins and a spicy, warming finish with bread spices and something earthy/yeasty. Almost full body, fairly sweet, with well balanced hints of alcohol. Lovely beer.

lots of roasted malt sweetness, with some nice sherry notes due to a few years aging. tasty, but not too remarkable.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tmoreau (1268) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - NOV 25, 2010
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and dispensed to a tall, Malheur stemmed goblet, with a dark brown hue and ruby highlights showing through, a creamy 1/2 inch of persistent, light tan foam that slowly reduced to a ring and film, and left some clingy ribbons of etched-like lacing. The aroma was malty sweetness, dark fruit as plum and raisin, with a sherry-like scent to it. The flavor was similar, adding some moderate hop bitterness, light spice, and definite warming alcohol. Easily quaffable, but the abv suggests sipping. How adventurous do you feel?
