Was given an 11.2 oz. bottle- and it’s a Friday! The pour: rich, head collapses quickly due to it’s high alochol content. The color: deep, dark, almost stoutish in color. The bouquet: very ripe plums, baker’s dark chocolate, with nice roasted malt subtleties. The palate: toasty, malty, a rich creaminess and pepperiness at the same time. (Not easy to achieve in a beer!) The finish: wonderful lingering malt finish. This is a wonderful beer. I have had their tripel, and it was fantastic as well!

Rating #800. Bottle. Pours a dark brown amber with a large tan head that that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet caramel, and yeast spice. Taste is the same as aroma with a hint of roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and very well hidden alcohol. Very good.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2008 750ml bottle. This is fruity, sweet and lightly musty and very easy on the palate which means it is easy to drink, especially for a 12% beer. Still, there are some off flavors, including the taste of pencil graphite, that drag this down. Beautiful pour — hazy dark brown body with a huge, fizzy beige head. The aroma is filled with esters of prune, overripe plum and banana, Notes of mustiness and a hint of peppery alcohol. Some floral notes creep in along with toffee and syrup. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately acidic along with a light bitterness — plus the sweetness sticks around. Medium to full body and lively carbonation. Watery texture at first, turning to syrupy. Too heavily sweet (along with that graphite taste) keeps this from being an excellent beer. Still, quite good.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 RSRIZZO (1634) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - AUG 9, 2008
Aroma is a sweet red wine scent. Color is a near solid amber with good carbonation and a thick tight tan head. Taste is rich and sweet. Starting with a full body that goes down rich and crisp. Finish comes in sweet with dried fruit and yeast flavors then just a touch of bitterness. After taste is almost like wine. I can’t believe this has 12% alcohol, it doesn’t show. This is a great Belgian Ale.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Mutualaid (142) - Texas, USA - AUG 8, 2008
Pours very dark with a fizzy, off-white head. Aromas of apricot and ripe figs with no hop bouquet. Sweet malt flavors hint at plum; alcohol heat dominates the middle flavors and it finishes clean with a slight hop tingle. Flavors evolve rather dramatically as the beer warms: the sweetness becomes almost Port-like (similar to Troi Pistoles) with cinnamon and vegatal notes. Medium body. A bit too sweet for my taste.
