---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Belgian Beer Factory. Pours dark mahogany brown with beige head. Nose is spices, dark and dried fruits, brown sugar, sweet and light booziness. Simply put that delicious dark Belgian aroma. And I am happy taste follows: smooth soft palate, brown sugar, dried fruits and spices, rich taste, caramel, syrupy sweet, some liquorice. This was a surprise, never heard of it before. Easy to drink yet complex.

Smells malty and strong. Tastes lots of dark red fruits, raspberry sweetness, malty backbone, carbonization gives it some freshness. It is tangy and in the aftertaste the sweet resides. Really well done quadruppel. Really rich in taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

Very dark brown with a beige frothy head. Aroma is figs, dates, coffee, brown sugar. Taste is very sweet, with a somehow drier finish. Medium carbonation, full bodied, oily to syrupy. Fully flavoured but too sweet and cloying for me.

Donker zwart bier met kleine crème kleurige schuimkraag. Aroma van hout, leder, donker fruit, tabak, kastanjes. Zeer vol en romig van smaak. Je proeft chocolade, koffie, pruimen, rozijntjes. Lekkere lange warme afdronk met heel licht bittertje. Absoluut een Topbier !!

330 ml bottle at abv 11.5% bought at Craftissimo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Looks: Cloudy hazy deep ruby brown with thin ring of dirt-like yeast sedimentsOne and a half finger head and beige foam which last for 3 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy small carbonation.

Aroma: Good fragrant and quite sweet rich dark malt, with floral, vanilla, banana, caramel, toffee, waffles, sugar, strong spices, strong Bel yeast and faint grass.

Taste: Mid to strong sweet dark malt, with pretty strong alcohol, liquorices, strong caramel, strong toffee, strong vanilla, dark fruits, brown sugar, spice, strong Bel yeast, lime, moderate bitter hops and grass.

Body: Full body. Very slick and quite smooth palate.

Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a smooth and fairly rich background, somewhat similar to Chimay Blue. Strong booze with good liquorices hits first, hides itself pretty well and no knocks on until 10 minutes or so. Lots of nice caramel, toffee vanilla and brown sugar. Strong dark fruit presence with vague profiles. Spicy and limey hops to round. Really nice!

Hoppiness: Faint grass in nose. Lime and grass in taste. Bitterness is mostly from liquorices with moderate hop astringency for a lasting, sweet-bitter finish.

After Taste: Slightly dry. smooth and nice sweet-bitter to mouth.

Comments: Feels like this one is being cut from the same cloth as Chimay Blue, but somewhat slimmer in body and without the latter’s creamyness. Otherwise it’s dark maltyness is upsurged by nicely expressed high booze with tasty liquorices. Topped with good looks, heads and aroma. Just like Chimay Blue, a nice hitter for relaxation, if only it has a more cream to please!
