750ml bottle. deep dark brown under a small tan head. aroma of brown sugar, raisin, caramel, and a bit of tartness. big foamy, heavily carbonated palate. flavor of caramel, brown sugar, and tart muscadine grapes. hints of a mace-like spice and lemon zest. big and bold. nice but the fizzy palate gets rather annoying.

Had this at the beer dinner at Steak 954. It was an impeccable beer. Malty with a hint of hops. Right down my flavor lane.

0,75l bottle with caged cork. Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a beautiful tanned head on top that lasts for a long time. Aroma of malts, spices, fruity presences and alcohol. As it warms up the alcohol becomes more present. Flavour has much alcohol, as well as some fruity spiceyness in it. Really much dark, ripe fruits like apples and cherries detected in the flavour. Mouthfeel is heavily carbonated, wich is nice. Great beer!

I had this beer on draft at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore, Maryland. It was served in a snifter glass and had a black/very dark brown color with a big foamy tan head with average retention, little cling, and ample lacing. The aroma featured raisin and dark fruit, some toffee, roasty malt, and a bit of floral hops and a touch of nut. It had a sweet malty flavor with notes of raisin and plum, with some toffee, and a slight sour effect. It was a very wet beer with a very full mouthfeel. The texture was very creamy and thick, but smooth, and the strong alcohol was very well-hidden.

Pours almost totally black with a very tall dense light brown head. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, spices, floral notes and alcohol. Taste is also sweet with caramel, fruits and spices leading to a sweet alcoholic finish. You can really taste the 12% with the alcohol burn and it seems to be a rare case of a beer getting worse as it heats up. The flavour dies out and there’s pretty much just alcohol left. Other than that, it’s pretty nice.

Wow..not a great deal going on here for 12%. Very carbonated for the style. Not particularly rich. Does hide the alcohol well though. A bit cloying - candi sugar, some stewed prunes and raisins, molasses. Short finish. Alcohol finds its way to the top, and lingers. Decent, but really nothing too special.

Jan 2010: Cork and caged 0.75 litre bottle. Very dark, deep ruby red body, the head left quickly, leaving a tan coloured collar around the glasses, no lacing. The smell was sweet, toffee (as used on toffee apples) with a roasted malt overtone. The taste was almost of treacle, very malty and sweetish. The aftertaste becoming more bitter as the mouth dried. The alcohol rules the mouthfeel, it hits you almost before the tastebuds can pick up the other flavours. Not a session beer, but good with friends.

Bottle 33 cl. Dark brown with a huge but fast-gone frothy lightbrown head. Nice aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, spices and some light alc. The taste is nice and sweet with a quite heavy malt-alc end to it. nice Nightcap.

Pours medium chestnut brown, opaque, with a medium head. Aroma is raisin, dried cherry, yeast, molasses, apple, malt, licorice, alcohol. Taste is a nice balance of sweet and bitter, from the start. Finish is similar. Mouthfeel is lively carbonation, medium bodied. Really nice.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2012 Bottle. Pours a deep dark purple/brown with huge tightly packed bubbly head that comes to a 3/4 finger head that stays forever. Smell is sweet dark fruits, molasses, and the booze shows a bit. Taste is what the nice surprise as the ABV was masked better than almost any other beer I have had. Taste was raisins, figs, plums, chocolates, sugared candy, molasses. Quite nice. The mouthfeel was maybe a bit to carbonated for me as I am not used to burping through a 12% beer. Nonetheless, great brew for a random pickup.
