Typical dark Belgian trappist color. The aroma is slightly sweet, with the Barley wine alcohol hint to it. The flavor is very good. Initially it has a strong alcohol flavor and then finishes with a slight sweetness. We had a beer club tasting and this one won hands down.

Tasted @ Zythos march 7th 2009. The fierce head keeps this sensational beer hidden until it contacts your mouth. A nice pick of dark mouts and a fine palate of hop bitters make up for this fine and balanced beerdrinking experience. Enjoyable long after its last drop. Because the price is so right in comparison to the Malheur Dark Brut, and because even champagne gets boring over time, I rate this beer a bit higher. A botttle is already waiting for a reprise but for now, I rest my case.

Overall one of the best strong beers I have ever had. It has a very balanced flavor with a slightly sweet finish. It packs a punch on the ABV scale but the taste does not come across as such.

Aroma is very sweet and dark. Appearance is also extremely dark brown, the head disappears rather quickly, which is a turnoff. Both the aroma and appearance (except for the head) remind me very much of Struise Pannepot, which put up high expectations for the beer itself. Flavorwise it’s also comparable to the great Pannepot, it only has a more alcoholic taste to it, which turns it down a little. It still is a pretty damn fine beer, it’s just not a Pannepot (yet).

250 ml bottle. Drink by June 2011. Super smooth, fine, tan head, just a sliver. Very dark brown beer. Fruity, hoppy aroma, with pine and citrus. Slightly reminiscent of an American Barley Wine! But is has a Belgian flair, with caramel and chocolate and raisins too. Chewy and rich. Rich, creamy, strong, huge flavor. Caramel, chocolate, hop, alcohol, raisins. Wow. Fresh fruit in there too, plus hops that are almost American. Great balance and complexity. I love it. Seems to marry the Belgian Strong ale with the Barley Wine, and to do so wonderfully.

Very strong but sweet ale with a bitter after taste. Lovely honey aroma. Smells very fruity and sweet. Ideal for cold winter nights.

Nice dark brown body with a big soapy off white head. Smells of burnt brown sugar and faint floral hops. Tastes of burnt sugar, dark vinous fruits, faint metallic, bitter hops (balance) and at 12% no alcohol taste at all. The carbonation on this one tickles your taste buds. If it wasn’t for the slight metallic taste in this brew, it would be "The One".

330 ml. bottle. Pours an opaque brown almost black colour, with a head that fades quickly leaving a strong lace. Smells of dried fruits, figs, raisins, chocolate. Spicy and fruity. Sticky sweet palate, not much carbonation (and no needed). Taste of dried fruits, pepper, spices, chocolate. It warms your throat like brandy and leaves you asking for more, even with its 12º. Great.
