COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In a country with beers named after the Devil, or called "Sudden Death", one called "Misfortune" (Malheur, in French) is just another wry jest. The beer itself is no joke. On the contrary, it is an inspired beer. Malheur is made in a new, revivalist, brewery.

33cl bottle at home. Clear golden with a medium white head which disappeared quickly. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Medium sweetness with some bitter tones. Grass, herbs, fruits and some hops. A refreshing blonde Belgian brew.

Bottle at home. Pours a slightly hazy dark straw colour with a big whipped eggwhite-like off-white head. Aroma of citrus, Belgian yeast and some sweet fruit and spices. Mild flavour with much of the same but with more pale malt, straw and hay. Has a smooth and slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A solid and mild Belgian blond ale.

A good "session" Belgian pale. Pale hazy gold, good firm head, good lacing. Nose of citrus, yeast, bread. Taste of citrus and yeast with a spicy finish.

A citrussy, hoppy blonde ale that reminds me somewhat of American pale ales. Tastes like home! Pours a hazy orange with thin, white, lacy head. Nose of orange zest and fresh hops... although the orange could be all esters, rather than hop aroma. Doesnít matter, smells good. Flavor starts a bit sweet but folds quickly into a dry, lasting bitterness. Touch of alcohol showing through, but still refreshing. Nice beer. I enjoyed this more than the bigger Malheurs, which run too sweet for me.

Bottle@home. One finger foam. Banana yeasty notes. Smooth dry. Good carbonation. Slight tarte. Fine not very complex brew.

A pale golden yellow coloured beer with a frothy and thick white head. A light, dusty malt smell, biscuity, then a tropical fruit hop aroma with a hint of spice. Medium-dry mouthfeel. A dry, biscuity malt taste to start, but this is only brief, it is soon taken over by a tangy tropical fruit hop flavour, with pineapple, banana and citrusy grapefruit and lemon. There is a hint of clove and cinnamon spice, reminiscent of a wheat beer. The finish is long, tangy fruit along with the spices.

tfredvik (1297) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 5, 2013
Very hazy golden body with a small white head that settles as a thin layer, some lacing. The aroma is rather strong and quite candy sweet, but also with hints of dust. Itís fruity with banana, bubble gum, spices, yeast and traces of vanilla. A very light sweetness and bitterness, and the finish isnít very long-lasting. The quite strong flavours are a bit less candy-ish than the aroma and the spices are more evident. Medium to light bodied, a bit water body with a dry finish, lively carbonation. Quite good.

This beer has quite a bit of bang for its alcohol content. There is some honey and malty spiciness, but it all comes together with a fabulous crisp belgian yeastiness. Some oxidized hop flavors in the background, but understandable due to expiry date almost 2 years past. Very enjoyable.
