KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Nov 3, 2009 "Drink by 31 August 2010" on the bottle.
Fresh, fruity aroma, citrus hops, pine,
Flavor of citrus and melon, light pilsner malts, honey. Very lemony. Sweet, yet alcohol, bitter, and tart balance it perfectly.
Spritzy champagne-like palate. Light and bubbly. Great beer. Classy and fun. Not twice as good as some others that are half its price, but great.
Agaguk (119), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 1, 2009 750ml bottle. Yellow clowdy appearance and cidiments in suspension with a nice white head. Aroma: kiwi, lime, apricot, thym, honey eggnog and ginger. Flavor: alcohol, honey lime and green bananas. Palate: medium body, soft carbonation, creamy oily, with an alcohol apricot finish. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2009 Bottle: Poured a golden color with a nice amount of head. The aroma was yeast and grape. The flavor was like champagne with more yeast. Overall, a real quality Brut, great for a New Years party if you don’t like champagne. Gypsy19 (604), California, USA Oct 13, 2009 I’m still trying to figure out when 088/110 is or was.
Pours a fizzy light orange with a medium white head that settles quickly.
Aroma is fruity, with white wine notes, yeast, light cream.
Flavor is again creamy at first, then follows with medium alcohol flavor, apricot and other fruits, again with the white wine, with an astringent finish.
Average mouthfeel, light viscosity for the style, spritzy carbo on the tongue. Olive oil aftertaste.
I must say that while enjoyable, it’s not worth the price nor does it hold a candle to the Malheur Dark Brut, which was soulful and amazing.
Overall, good plus.
DKthe13 (52), Netherlands Oct 6, 2009 75cl pure hapiness. Nice full loaded beer with a nice saturation. Foam is nice white and a stays in the glass for a while. (which is a must for this beer, if you want to empty the bottle in one evening). Aroma contains a dry and fruity scent. Finish is long and that makes this beer so unique. Tmoney99 (4663), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 24, 2009 Bottle from Root Cellar.
Poured clear yellow color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sparkling wine, yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a tingly texture and lively carbonation. Medium sparkling sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.
My expectations where met.
shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Aug 21, 2009 8/20/2009: Malheur Brut Reserve... Aroma: Interesting blend of fruity sweet and tart acidity; golden plum. Appearance: Hazy pale lemon yellow color; ample carbonation; large fluffy white head, puffy lacing; swilring with fine sediment. Flavor: Soft fruits and white grape with floral notes, creamy yeastiness in the mid-palate; dry, fruity, and slightly sharp finish; plenty of residual sweetness with a slighly dry finish; opens up a bit more as it breathes. Palate: Medium-light, prickly/tingly on the tongue. Overall: Pretty tasty, but it would be damn hard to put down a full bottle of this on my own. A couple sample-sized glasses is plenty!
1 Pint 9.4 Fl. oz. corked and caged bottle (Alc 11% by Vol; Best before end 088/110) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #276 for this beer.
judasbeer (230), Budapest, Hungary Aug 12, 2009 Slightly hazy golden with persistent head. Extremely active, sparkling natural carbonation, just like a good champagne has. Tart, musty white wine aroma with pears and other mellow fruits.
A full rounded mouthfeel with mellow fruits, vanilla, coriander. Unique peppery dryness in the finish. Maybe don’t worth that high price, but worth to celebrate any kind of event instead of any other beverage.
