LoveCaissa (873), Copenhagen, Denmark Jan 4, 2006 Sampled new years eve 2005/06 with some friends. Extreme carbonation - almost impossible to pour. Mouthfeel is very sparkling and champagne like. Finish is very dry and bitter. In terms of value-for-money this is not a good deal... madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark Jan 2, 2006 Bottled: Golden coloured. Unclear. Off white huge head. Loads of yeast, spices, sweetness and fruits in the nose. Is very carbonated. Sweetness, herbs, alcohol and spices in the flavour. Yeast notes as well. Quite complex and full mouthfeel. Is dry and refreshing in the end. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2006 Licking the sharp, rocky islands of foam remaining on the sides of the glass, you will receive a bitter, herbal, leafy, yeasty set of flavors that fully encapsulates Belgian brewing. A monster of a dry, bone-dry, yeasty, complex beer, with raging naturalness in the form of honest to goodness bitterness. A tiny bit of honey washes in to relieve you. The aroma is all grass and hay. Delicious. Truly. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 26, 2005 bottle. pours a white-golden body with small specks of yeast floaties and a small white head. phenomenal aroma - funky earth, wood, yeast, and apple skins. tastes pretty wild too with significant lemon citrus flavour and some grassy hops. some alcohol peering through towards the finish. sharp and flavourful. nice. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 5, 2005 750 ml bottle shared with MartinT, tiggmtl, Rastacouere, beerbuzzmontreal and Yowie. I loved the 10, I was blown away by the Brut Noire...would this hold up, or disappoint. Anticipation! The pour: a forever-lasting creamy snow-white head atop a light translucent gold body, with sheets of thick lace. The aroma: acerbic, sour yeastiness, wild flowers, sourdough and dogwood, touch of lime and orange....powerful. The flavor: sour, barnyardy, mineralic and pungent, lightly grapy, tough and challenging. The palate: granite-edged fluffiness, light and clean and at the same time rustic and outdoorsy...an insane description I know but I’m just not sure what to say, it’s that good and that unusual. The body is "hard" and "tough" in that it supports such a complexity of flavors and aromas...yet it is pillowy-soft, enveloping and luxurious, champagne-like but smoother and creamier. The end result: a masterpiece, my favorite yet from this brewer, and I feel like I am underrating it. I need a whole bottle for myself, soon! TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Oct 16, 2005 Bottled 0,75 ltr (BB 06/2006)
Hazy golden, big Duvel-like foamy head, lace. Complex aroma of champagne, lemony woody hops, eau de Cologne, frozen strawberries and fruits. When it warms, also some barnyard and horseblanket. Medium-bodied. Hoppy bitter and alcoholic. Semi-dry fruity white wine -like palate. Warming, good balanced tripel with extra alcohol, peppery spicey in the finish. I agree with my friend sayravai: much much better than Deus. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands Oct 3, 2005 golden beer with a huge head which settles to a yhin layer. aroma: funky yeast, citrussy. taste is where this really shines: lovely funky brett yeast, spicy, and a bit fruity. wonderful hop and malt profile, sweet and bitterish. finishes sweet, fruity and bitterish. full bodied and alc. warming. very tasty saison-like champagne beer. but beware not to drink this one too quickly, gets you drunk in one glass... Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Sep 12, 2005 Pours with a golden body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet, slightly malty, slightly fruity and a touch spicy with a little candy sugar. Medium bodied and warming yet smooth.
