Pours cloudy orange with a large white fluffy head. Nose is yeast and fruits. Strong notes of yeast, liquorice and alcohol. Lively carbonation. Lots of yeast. Fresh! Great. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 1, 2009 Flaske: Fantastisk skummende øl, ser ud som champagne. Let og fluffy. Tydelig belgisk i sit udtryk, men dog en anelse alkohol der skinner igennem, hvilket trækker lidt ned. Mutualaid (136), Texas, USA Jan 1, 2009 Pours a nice murky lemon yellow with a fizzy (surprise) off-white head. Big aromas of citrus, jasmine, and a wheat-like sourness. Vanilla and cardamom with a bit of honey-sweetness up front with alcohol and a bit of floral hops in the middle. Medium body, nice drying finish. A really great beer that isn’t relying on the Methode as a gimmick. wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Dec 30, 2008 Pale cloudy yellow with a fizzy full white head. Has a citrusy and sour aroma. Odd complex flavor, too. There’s citrus, mostly lemon, and sweet pale malt. i’m sure the oddness is due to the wild yeasts favored for Belgian ales. The high ABV comes through, but not assertively considering the 11%. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Dec 24, 2008 Pours an extremely effervescent, cloudy pale gold, with a huge, frothy, well-sustained head - light yeast and mustiness in the aroma, with moderate pils malt character, spicy hops, white grapes, even a slight earthy funkiness to it - nice and tingly in the mouth - a little bit of honey sweetness at first, but this is mostly dry, and quite peppery/spicy, with a rather strong hop profile - pear, apple and melon rind through the middle - gets quite earthy/rustic near the end, with a very mild funkiness which I normally associate with higher quality euro-made saisons - in fact, aside from the strength, this is much like a saison - the pear character gets a lot stronger as it warms - the alcohol is present and warming, but never overpowering - this is an outstanding beer. Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Dec 21, 2008 750 ml bottle. A younger brother to Deus, this one was more like beer than champagne. Dry and hoppy, malts throughout. Might get more complex with a few years in storage.
