tiggmtl (4548) - Vancouver, British Columbia, - JUL 10, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2006 Aroma is floral, perfume-like, yeasty, clean and fresh and quite hoppy with notes of marzipan and fruity esters. Cloudy, golden yellow with yeast in suspension and strong white head that recedes to a thick cover with excellent lace. Really sneaky, strong floral hop flavour and bitterness with notes of pine, orange and a sweet almond malt character. Very complex. Gently effervescent and lively on the tongue. Definite alcohol warming though alcohol is never apparent. Bottle. Enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere.

Bottle. Cloudy golden color, fizzy white head. Pleasant and fairly mild aroma with notes of flowers, butter and a cellar. The flavor hides the high ABV and comes out as an easy-going Duvel. Medium-full body, medium-high carbonation. Nice, though not quite in the league of Deus Brut des Flandres.

Bottle shared at Rootz. Pours slight hazy golden with lively Champaigne bubbles and a big bubbly white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, malt and light fruits. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with lively prickly Champaigne like carbonation.

TET (1867) - FINLAND - DEC 31, 2014
A golden, strongly bubbling beer with a very big and blond head. The nose has grainy malts, fruits, some lemon and honey. Taste has grain, fruits, honey, herbal-grassy hops, strenght of alcohol but without taste. Medium+ bodied, strong carbonation that is slightly bubbling in the mouth. There is something luxorious but still slightly blend, I was expecting more.

Bottle at S&G tasting. APPEARANCE: clouded blond beer, nice stable white head. NOSE: caramel, rather sweet in general. TASTE: sweet, candy sugar, too old sample maybe? Score is given as for a young sample though, had this before I started rating. (this sample was expired for 2 or 3 months)

Alengrin (2742) - BELGIUM - DEC 30, 2014
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2015 Tasted under its original name Malheur Brut Réserve and under the later name Malheur Bière Brut, this was the first of the ’champagne beers’ which appeared on the Belgian market around the year 2000. Poured in a champagne flute, this beer has a coarse but thick and firm, snow white head and a pure and deep golden blonde colour with very fierce, indeed champagne-like fizz. Unusual but attractive aroma of hay, soap, dried lemon peel, cava, old cheese, walnuts, vanilla, biscuit, chamomille, apple, dough and something plastic-like, but not disturbingly so. Dry taste, applish fruitiness, starfruit, very spritzy, yeasty, bready, with champenoise carbonation stinging the tongue, refreshing, with yeasty finish revealing some herbal hops and gin-like, warming alcohol. Very enjoyable apéritif, appetizing and more ’beery’ than its competitor DeuS Brut des Flandres by Bosteels.
