15/VIII/2012 75cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Erwin’s BBQ - BB: 1/VIII/13 (2012-932)
Pretty clear yellow blond beer, some small sediment floating around under an aery off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit sugary, floral, some citrus, little grassy. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very spicy, gingerbread, cloves, (peperkoek, but that’s a Dutch/Belgian thing), some citrus, cloves again, somewhat sugary, bitter hops, chocolaty touch. Aftertaste: bitter hops, quite an alcohol burn, pretty spicy, some citrus again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared (2005 vintage). Pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruity, funky sour, and damp. Flavour is medium sweet, bitter and sour. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Far from the best Malheur I’ve tried but maybe just past it’s best.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Medium airy white head, disappears slowly, on top of a light cloudy yellow orange colored beer.
Smell old wood, yeast, green apple, pee, some malts, wild yeast, earth, some hints of friut like dried apricot and mango.
Taste green apples, yeast, wood, old wet wood, yeasty wood particles, some hops and light sharper hops but get taken right away by the woody character.
Aftertaste of grass, yeast, fresh cut/mown green grass, some hops, light hint of wood and floral.
Medium carbo, soft light creamy mouthfeel, full body and a light creamy texture.
Very nice beer! Well balanced and a lot of tasty wood.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle, 0.75 l, at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, 20120515) The beer poured hazy yellow. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, wood and honey. Palate was quite light bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, sweetness, wood, honey and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, a bit boozy and bitter. Thin and boozy but not completely bad. The trippel flavours were nice.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours light yellow with high and persistent head. High carbonation and slightly turbid with yeast on the bottom. Fruity and a little sour mouthfeel, has medium body not expected for a brut. Finishes alcoholic and sweet, with bitter notes after some minutes. Good rare brut and worth its price for a good experience.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml dark green "champagne" bottle, as Malheur Cuvée Royale Brut Reserve, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo (bought in October 2011). ABV is 9%. Hazy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Refined aroma of farmhouse (does that make sense?), farmhouse kitchen / brettanomyces, hints of oxidised fruits and mild spices. Crisp, medium dry and spicy flavour. Moderate hops. Well balanced, "refined" seems to be the right word for the flavour too. The alcohol is well hidden. Quite enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
0.75l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This one pours a light clouded champagne looking body packed with small floaters and a lasting sidesticking white head. The aroma has lots of sour-ish apples, some yeasty tones, some other fruit that it’s hard to describe, but it’s quite alright. Average to a bit less than average carbonation levels and a mild smoothish body. Kinda on the candy-sweet side this one. Nice and light yeasty flavors, it has both earthy and flowerish tones. A nice sweet and warming finish. Yeah, quite nice stuff!
