Bottle. Oily black beer with a filthy tan collar. Decaying leaves, cocoa, ashtray, burnt vanilla on the nose. Good soapy hop under Neopolitan, bitter chocolate, Fry’s and burnt nut notes. Makes me think of After Eights and after dinner coffee. Kind of festive I suppose.

Black, ruby edges, thin tan head with some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, bitter plain chocolate, touch of coffee
Taste of roasted malts, bit of coffee, dark chocolate malts, some Bournville, nice deep dark malts, some bitter roast, touch of charcoal
Palate - soft carb, medium body, some viscosity, little sticky. Finish - some lingering bit powdery dark rich chocolate cocoa
Overall - Very flavoursome stout, however, it’s more bitter roast and chocolate

Cask (gravity) - Norwich Beer Festival, 2012. Poured a near opaque brown with a fine but lasting light tan head. Roasted mat, chocolate, leather & coffee on the aroma. Good coffee, dark chocolate & roasted malt to taste. Medium-ish body, lingering dark malt finish & a soft palate texture.

Black pour. Slight tan head that faded from a larger one. Plenty of lacing. Aroma of chocolate and roasted barley. Chocolatey taste with some malt sweetness and a slight bit of coffee. Nice milk stout mouthfeel. Sweet and yet dry finish. Very nice.

CP&K Pizza Port Tap Takeover. Well casks were still regular. Opaque black - brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Light airy dry palate. Mild dark malts with a tiny bit of unsweet dark chocolate. Very subtle dark fruits. Semi dry smooth finish. Okay.

Cask conditioned handpump Malt Shovel Northampton 29/06/12. A black beer with a small grey head. A good bitter roasty stout. Nicely hopped. Plenty of chocolate in the nose. Drier and smokier in the mouth. A very tasty well brewed stout.
