3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
23rd August 2012
Hazy orange - gold beer, tidy off white head. Crispy palate - light. The malt has a familiar Mallinsons soapy streak. Mild fresh hops - orange and tangerine pith. Semi dry finish with a mild bitter linger and a spot more soap! Overall the hops redeem this.

3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Pours cloudy golden with a little sediment. No real head. Light citrus aroma. Plenty of hops with heavy dry citrus flavours. A long finish with a bitterness that lingers and develops to become quite intense as you make your way through the glass. Fairly high carbonation, would rather it be a little less gassy but overall this is a very nice well-hopped pale ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear medium yellow colour with a small large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, moderate hoppy, grass. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Good balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Minimally cloudy pale golden colour with average, firm, frothy, white head. Floral and grassy hop aroma, a citrus touch. Taste is initially fresh pale malty with spicy, yeasty overtones, then fruity and citrussy notes come in, some husky notes remain; dry to bitter and slightly grassy hoppy finish. Nice composition.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Pours hazy gold, with a lot of sediment. Smells drily cascadey, which is pretty pleasant. The mouthfeel is slightly dry and a has a plastic or perhaps faint artificiality which hangs over the otherwise very pleasant hops. Malt backbone is evident, which offers a dryness and a slight lack of flavour in the finish, which is understandable for the abv. All in all, a very drinkable Golden, with a nice hop bite, which has some chalk and pine lint.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml from Tomlinsons. Cracked this beauty open expecting a barrage of hop smells to fire out at me, but left a little underwhelmed. Citrus nose, limey, a little grassy. Couldn’t really pick out the cascade hops. Took heed of the "may contain sediment" warning, then ignored it and poured a little in anyway - cloudy off-golden appearance with a spotless white head, very nice to look at.
After my mouth fought its way past bits of yeast floaters (not a bad thing, mind) I got in about the good stuff, tasting limes, with a medium bitter taste all around the mouth. The finish is sharp but lengthy enough for a 3.9% - a little salty. Average carbonation.
Fairly enjoyable - a good session beer, but expected more hoppy-ness on the nose.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle at room temp. Clear (initially), finely sedimented pale gold with a flat white foam. Muted aroma after the Sorachi; quietly pungent with coniferous, pine cone, flowery aspects. And a deep-stewed, celery-like, rosemary hit. On the palate big husky malts and vanilla supporting resiny hops. Good lager on steroids.Tastes a little bit like putting a hop directly in your mouth, which is a good thing. I tend to expect floweriness and lemon from Amarillo and Cascade but this is resiny, spruce-like, approaching rosemary. Lemongrass sweetness bittered to hell. More very good, hoppy, sessionable stuff from Mallinsons.
