3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle. Pours a deep, slightly hazy, reddish mahogany brown with a small, cream-colored head with big bubbles. On the nose there’s some sweet, banana-like yeasty esters, some caramelly malt and some rye and spiciness. Taste is dry, earthy and malty with some spice, a little rye and some yeast. Palate is soft with medium to low carbonation. Pleasant.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

Bottle. Reddish dark brown color. Long lasting light beige head. Sweet and slightly sour mild aroma of cherry and yeast. Sweet taste with sour finish. It’s good but not quite complex.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 50 cl. Poured hazy amber in color with a small tan head. Sweet toffee, syrup and belgian yeast in aroma, very attractive. Smooth, light malty in taste with no sign of the alcohol. Belgian yeast quite strong in taste.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Interesting aroma has fruits and berries, salty licorice, spices..nice! Color is beautiful deep ruby red, head short and fast. Taste is belgian beer like as promised, nuanced and powerful, medium body, soft feel, alcohol also in flavor but not unpleasant burning but rather warmth, herbs, soft carbonation, nice tasty finish. Good one, was happily surprised even tough this is one great brewer in Finland.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Dark brown, hazy. Nose is full of belgian yeast esters, some dustyness, dark raisin, some plumes. Very dubbel-like. Body is medium full. A bit dry, dusty. Dark candi, raisins. Very much in style with a belgian dark strong ale. A bit dry and dusty though, not as smooth as the best of the style. Quite enjoyable in any case.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, bought @ Bunker Beer. Pours hazy red-orange with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has sweet Belgian sugar, men light black pepper, some caramel. Medium carbonation, fat and rather oily mouthfeel. Flavour is malty, men relatively sweet, pepper, a touch of funk. Lingering bitterness. Warming vinious.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2013 Dark rusty copper color with a little head that fades away completely quickly. Aroma has lots of raisin and sweet dried fruitiness, also spiciness. The taste is sweet and spicy; dried fruitiness dominates with sweet caramel maltiness and some yeasty notes. Light bitter hoppy bite appears in the finish and balances the taste. Medium to full body, a sticky mouthfeel. Appearance isn’t similar to strong Belgians because of the quickly fading head. Maybe the malty backbone could be a bit stronger, it would have made the taste a bit richer. Still, overall a very good Belgian style beer from Malmgård. One of the best strong Finnish ales.
