Draught (Porvoo BF2009)
Milky and curious aroma - part savoury, part sweet and belgian, and a touch of alcohol. Resiny hoppy taste - meaty retronasals. Big hoppy bitter body. Spicy. Leaves me unimpressed, alas.

Medium light beige head. Hazy opaque brown body. Fruity alcoholic caramel aroma with funky herbal notes. Dry-sweet smoky roasty funky taste with mealy fruity notes. Mid-bodied. Fizzy mouthfeel. Dryish smoky roasty aftertaste with spicy funky earthy notes. Really nice. Subdued smoke beer with Belgian overtones. (0.5l bottle, Belge, Helsinki.)

MacMoney (412) - Espoo, FINLAND - MAY 12, 2012
Bottle @ Helmi Grilli, Helsinki. Pours a hazy auburn with a large, yellowish brown head. Aroma is dried fruits, spiciness, yeast. Tried to pour without the yeast, but apparently the bottle had been disturbed before it was brought to us. Taste is fruit esthery, spicy, peppery, yeasty, quite sweet with caramel. Palate is somewhat carbonated and full. Pretty alright though maybe a bit too sweet and underwhelming.

Aroma is fruity and sugary with a feeling of belgian yeast. Flavour is sugary with belgian yeast. Feels like a sweet candy - also a feeling of an aged belgian ale.Nice.

rosenbergh (3495) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 23, 2011
500 ml bottle. Finland.
Cloudy copper colour with tiny off-white head. Dried fruits, sugar, malt and notes of chocolate and yeast in aroma. Strong flavour with alcohol, nougat, liqueur fills candies, dark fruits, sugar sweetness, malt and some peppery notes. Interesting brew. Not for everyday use though. Sticky mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

courtesy of oh6gdx - cloudy copper-orange colour with a modest foam left; aroma of nougat, yeast, candi sugar and some undefined fruits; pretty sweet and medium to full malt backbone, no bitterness and lot of residual sugars; more fruits, yeast and nougat in the finish

Bottle sampled at the brewery. The correct name is ’Ceci n’est pas un Belge’ or ’This is not a Belgian’, which a kind of clue. Made in Finland using an American yeast, no spice and a more typically Finnish than Belgian hop recipe. It is not designed to be a small-spice-good-big-spice-better North American also ran. It is more sophisticated than that, standing out from a generally interesting range.
