3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, - JUL 26, 2010
(Draught@HBF 2010, sampled 2010-04-10) Very dark brown with a small, fading head. Lots of tart oakiness int he nose with licorice-vanillaish malt, and some alcohol. Sweetish flavor has loads of vanilla, some apple acidity, no hops to speak of. Quite full body, almost flat. A reasonably tasty, but quite sweet oak version of Dessert Stout.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 laiti (1714) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAR 15, 2012
Draught @ Gastropub Nordic. Rated on 25.04.2011
Not a good drink to start a session with a warm spring day at patio – but here we go. Aroma has lots of bourbon notes with vanilla and somewhat stinging alcohol. Flavour is too sweet – just like Pesäpuu #1. It has vanilla, stinging bourbon and some cocoa notes. Reminds me of Goose Island Bourbon County, but the whiskey does not fit the beer perfectly. Also the sweetness disturbs me.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tiong (1306) - Espoo, FINLAND - JUL 18, 2011
Sample @ HBF 2010. Originally rated on 9.4.2010. Unbalanced imperial stout. Oaky vanilla notes come through way too much and ruin the balance.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 lusikka (2536) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 30, 2011
Draught @ Gastropub Nordic, Tampere.
Pours a pitch black colour with a small, beige, foamy head. Aroma of sweet dried fruits and syrup. Flavour of strong raisins, syrup, heavy caramel malts and brown sugar. Full bodied with a sticky mouthfeel and a very sugary finish. Way too sweet for me.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FatPhil (6219) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 20, 2010
Keg (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, 10th anniversary)
7 Sweet walnutty roastiness and vanilla, touch of butter.
4 Basalt
8 Sweet roasty taste, lots of butter.plenty of vanilla. In fact, it’s butttered toast.
4+ very sweet palate, slick, and the carbonation’s very low. Finish is divine with the sweet and gentle roast
15 Just shy of brilliance, perhaps not quite stout enough, and the sweetness is only for those with a sweet tooth.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 oh6gdx (16098) - Vasa, FINLAND - NOV 20, 2010
Draught@Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Quite much pitch black colour, small brown head.Aroma is chocolate, some liquorice, alcohol and quite coffeeish. Flavour is much the same with some quite strong glueish liquorice. This one is probably way too young still. So far this is the worst of the pesäpuu ones.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 mile (1459) - Helsinki, FINLAND - NOV 16, 2010
Draught at Pikkulintu. Very dark brown, very small and fully diminishing dark brown head. Moderate to heavy malty aroma with some sweetness, lots of roasted malt with coffee and chocolate, some licorice. Body is moderate to heavy, malty and very sweet flavor, some vanilla and coffee. Finish is average, malty sweet with notes of coffee. Aroma is quite good but flavor is sugary sweet –aroma and flavor not in balance.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 keskes (4) - , Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 11, 2010 does not count
Coffee with chocolate complexions. Only works after a heavy dinner. Not your average thirst killer. Impressive
2.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 tlind2 (840) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 29, 2010
Draught@HBF2010. Black color, no head. Vanilla and chocolate aroma. Overwhelming chocolate flavor, cloyingly sweet. Very full body, very low carbonation. Compared to the previous iterations, this one is badly off balance. Can’t drink this for more than a few sips.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SaintMatty (2855) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - APR 18, 2010
Draughht (Helsinki Beer Festival 2010) - Shared with Doggythedog. Black in colour. Whisky, roasted malt and plain chocolate feature in the aroma. Sweet and slightly syrupy taste with dried fruit, chocolate and roasted coffee. Rather rich and a bit too sweet to drink much too much of.
