Medium cloudiness to a dark orange or brown body with a medium sized head. Has a nutty mouthwash or toothpaste mint and spice smell, some malty forward bran notes and a chestnut and peanut skin smell and flavor throughout. A little plain overall, a bit of a simple flavor, but nice enough, and different, to score some points. Some ginger root and light cocoa make an appearance at warmer temperatures, as does a more pronounced peanut/chestnut character, and some very light smoked (smoked nuts) flavors.

Jul 8, 2008 500 ml. Deep garnet with a one-finger creamy and lasting head. Smoked dark fruit, clove, honey and wheat aromas. Flavors of fig, tart cherry, clove, earth, smoke, cedar, oak, and toffee. Medium-heavy body is a little too fizzy, but nicely balanced between sticky and dry.

Jul 7, 2008 Bottle at JoeMcPhee’s tasting. Deep amber in color with a little head. Nice smokey malty aroma. Toffee notes. Rich smokey caramel sweet flavor. Smokey honey notes. Finish is smokey and sweet. Medium to full bodied. Very interesting. Very drinkable.

Jun 28, 2008 Thanks to PilsnerPeter for sharing this one. Deep amber beer. The aroma is really rich and smoky. Rich and sweet with a softly honeyed maltiness. A little bit fruity and spicy as well. The fruitiness is quite nice, sort of like dark berries. A hint of clove and more sweet chewy smokiness. Rich and toffeeish flavour with a long lingering sweetness. This is a very tasty brew.

Jun 26, 2008 Bottle at Joe’s. Aroma of ginger and chestnut, lemon. Very cloudy pour. Very sweet, a touch of syrup in a good way, nutty spices, maple. Light drinking. Nice stuff.
