Bottled (from bierzwerg.de). Very deep ruby red colour, small brown head. Aroma is sweet malts, some slight syrup as well as mild notes of wood. Flavour is quite much the same. Overall rather sweet.

On tap at Malzmühle. It pours a clear, dark reddish brown body under a diminishing, one-finger beige head. Lacings. The nose is a bit weak, with raisins and wort-like sweetness. Caramel-sweet, wort flavor with dried fruits and some roasted malts. Smooth, creamy and sticky mouthfeel. Sweet finish with sultanas. A good beer, at least in small quantities, don’t think I could down many of these. 091009

On tap at the brewpub, 18th Aug 09. Dark brown with a little magnolia head. Extremely sweet and sugary with a pronounced malt nose. Molasses and butterscotch are the dominant flavour notes. It’s like an over-sweetened mild. Very different but not up my street.

draught@brewery - pours a very dark brown colour with no head retention; aroma of corn and sweet malts, a touch of chocolate too; very sweet with a light malt body; residual sugars and notes of malt and cola in the finish

Draught, 2% at the brewpub. Caramelly and buttery aroma, quite nice. Almost black colour, seems clear. Stable light brown head. The flavour is quite sweet with lots of brown sugar notes. Distinguished from other beers of the style by a subtle spicy hoppiness, which helps to balance the sweetness ever so slightly. Quite nice.

Bottle: Deep ruby-amber coloured, fluffy beige loose head; moderate fruity (berries), coffeeish and sweet nose; moderate sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; short sweet coffeeish finish. Not bad and far better than an average "low-alcohol".....

Quack-Duck (8674) - Down South, GERMANY - MAR 2, 2008
bottle, tarded with Kölschtrinker. Amber-brown colour, small but creamy beige head. Lightly hoppy, not unpleasantly sweet - well balanced for its style. Nice!

Draught, Malzmühle, Köln. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (burnt caramel, molasses, cereal, nuts), lightly yeasty (dough), with a light note of raisin. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, soft carbonation. I felt stupid even ordering this, but all in all it’s not bad for a malt. Barley’s answer to soda pop.

Reddish brown pour covered by a fair off-white head. Caramelly nose with cherry coke notes and a certain biscuity character that feels more malty than any of the other malzbier I’ve had. Unagressive carbonation, juicy, fruity palate with enough acidity to keep in check. A fine example of a style that serves a noble purpose!
