3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Quack-Duck (6811) - Down South, GERMANY - MAR 2, 2008
bottle, tarded with Kölschtrinker. Amber-brown colour, small but creamy beige head. Lightly hoppy, not unpleasantly sweet - well balanced for its style. Nice!
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5609) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 7, 2008
Draught, Malzmühle, Köln.
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (burnt caramel, molasses, cereal, nuts), lightly yeasty (dough), with a light note of raisin.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, soft carbonation.
I felt stupid even ordering this, but all in all it’s not bad for a malt. Barley’s answer to soda pop.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (6041) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 10, 2007
Reddish brown pour covered by a fair off-white head. Caramelly nose with cherry coke notes and a certain biscuity character that feels more malty than any of the other malzbier I’ve had. Unagressive carbonation, juicy, fruity palate with enough acidity to keep in check. A fine example of a style that serves a noble purpose!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Koelschtrinker (8470) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAR 17, 2007
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 gnoff (6317) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - OCT 25, 2006
(Draught, 20 cl, on place at the brewpub) Dark brown color, appears to be clear, tan head. Very sweet scent, mixed with a good portion of butterscotch. Very very sweet taste that lingers, no beer flavor at all. Sweet aftertaste. Full body but no bitterness.
1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20 dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 21, 2006
Ruby brown in color with a medium off white head. Sweet malty aroma and flavor of unfermented wort with a dose of butter,caramel/butterscotch. Even an 8oz serving is unfinishable.
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 imdownthepub (8470) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 1, 2005
Draught at Brauerie zur Malzmuhle, Cologne, 200ml, Filtered. Dark brown colour, tan head. How I ended up with this beer I don’t know, high caramel, toffee flavour, sweet and thick with a touch of coffee. More like liqued fudge than anything.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Savad (58) - Den Bosch, NETHERLANDS - AUG 20, 2005
Rocky brown head, yet diminishing. Leaves an excellent lace. Dark ruby in color. Lots of molasses and caramel in the aroma. Very pleasant. Some buttery notes, sweet dough. Resembles the scent of a sweet tee left over night. Medium bodied, a bit syrupy. Caramel sweetness in the flavor at first; ice-tee mouthfeel in the finish. I’d love to have this one always ready to hand! Resembles a Dutch Oud Bruin or good Russian fermented kvas, which is not available in the market anymore.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (4992) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JUN 26, 2005
Bottled. Strong sweet butterscotch aroma. Very dark ruby color, brown head, very nice lace. Extremely sweet caramel start but soon less sweet, nice burnt malts, butterscotch, black tea in the very finish, light dry, almost syrupy. More like the Dutch Oud Bruin than the standard Geman Malz ’beers’.
