COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Welcome to Altitude! You are now at 8,000 feet on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. You have traveled far, and are about to be rewarded with some of the best craft beers in the world from over 60 microbreweries. In this bottle is one of those fine ales, brewed and commemoratively bottled especially for this 15th annual Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza. This imperial stout was first brewed during the winter of 2009/10, and has been aged for a rich, dark and roasty flavor. This brew is not a light-bodied beer for the pint glass, but should be enjoyed at cellar temperature in a wide-rimmed wine glass. (And possibly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...)

Black color/ tan head. Nice medium roast malt, cracker malt, coffee, dirt, dark fruit aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Medium roast, black malt flavors with a dark fruit and pale malt sweetness--very easy drinking for a big brew.

timfoolery (661) - California, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Bottle from Nugget Market in 2011. Nice aroma of cocoa nibs and instant coffee in the nose, but the palate was rather horrible, as it was bitter and astringent with the bitter coffee flavor lingering forever. From the looks of the bottle and the past tastings from the brewer, I thought this would be much better. Fair brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bhensonb (7598) - Woodland, California, USA - JUL 2, 2011
Bomber from the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Pours really dark brown/black with a really dark creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma is smooth dark malt with chocolate hints. Smells warm, maybe with a bit of coffee. Full bodied. Smooth. Rich. Creamy. Goes to sweetish burnt malt. Grummy (that’s good) burnt malt. Heat is in the chest. Really smooth and delicious. It does seem to develop coffee with time.

22 oz. bottle shared by lushawn at Dark Lord Day 2011- thanks again, Shawn! Pours a dark, deep brown color with a small beige head, a little bit lighter overall than most imperial stouts in appearance but really nice looking. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, earth, brown sugar, and molasses. Flavor of oak, dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, earth, nuts, and toasted brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Decent stout but the barrel notes seem to be missing a bit; I wonder if this was just better fresh.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Alley Katz in Sacramento, CA. The aroma is roasted and woody along with some chocolate hints. Decent sweetness, and some caramel notes present, too. Decent. Opaque black body with a small light tan head present. Slightly acidic, tart, choco roasted start. Light anise flavors in the middle. Finishes roasted and slightly burnt. Light astringency to finish.
