4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 daleharshman (702) - San Diego, USA - AUG 10, 2010
Bomber purchased at brewery ($13) last weekend during the Beer Fest and Bluesapalooza. I was at Mammoth for mountain biking and really wanted to go to the beer festival but simply couldn’t find a ticket, so I was happy to at least get a couple bottles of this. Pours a true pitch black with two fingers of very dark thick foam with good retention. Aroma of dark hard roasted malts, brewed dark black tea, tar, and some ash/smoke. Flavor again of very dark roasted malts, strong dark coffee, dark dark chocolate, and some smoke. Thick and finishes with an almost perfect amount of light sweetness. No perceptible alcohol. This may not be as outright complex as some other of the other great impy stouts, but this is extremely well executed and delicious. (1, 357)
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20 timfoolery (661) - California, USA - FEB 6, 2012
Bottle from Nugget Market in 2011. Nice aroma of cocoa nibs and instant coffee in the nose, but the palate was rather horrible, as it was bitter and astringent with the bitter coffee flavor lingering forever. From the looks of the bottle and the past tastings from the brewer, I thought this would be much better. Fair brew.

Full bodied. Smooth. Rich. Creamy. Goes to sweetish burnt malt. Grummy (that’s good) burnt malt. Heat is in the chest. Really smooth and delicious. It does seem to develop coffee with time.

22 oz. bottle shared by lushawn at Dark Lord Day 2011- thanks again, Shawn! Pours a dark, deep brown color with a small beige head, a little bit lighter overall than most imperial stouts in appearance but really nice looking. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, earth, brown sugar, and molasses. Flavor of oak, dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, earth, nuts, and toasted brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Decent stout but the barrel notes seem to be missing a bit; I wonder if this was just better fresh.
