DeadGirl (473) - La Jolla, USA - APR 26, 2010
On draft at Mammoth Brewing Co. (Mammoth Lakes, CA): Pours a mahogany reddish-brown color and topped with a dense beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, vanilla, ripened fruits- most notably, huge chunks of banana, dough, and light spices. Medium to full-bodied. Flavors of caramel, vanilla, light hops, red berries, nuts, alcohol, and lots of sweet malts that steer away from being too cloying. A nice dusting of light roast throughout. Drinkablity: A nice sweet treat. Pairing: Intense dishes of roast beef and lamb. Rebuy: Yes. #427 on 26042010, DG.

2/25/12. Bottle shared during RBWG 2012. Slightly hazed red pour with a small khaki head. Chocolate in the aroma with a bit of dark fruits. Somewhat light flavor with a ton of chocolate and malty aspects. Interesting.

Bottle shared with Timfoolery. We’ve had this one for awhile so decided to crack it. Not as big as I thought it would be, but still had a nice full flavor. Good brew!!

Taster at the brewery. Dark pour with a light tan foam slick. Aroma is light oak, maybe some whiskey, darker malt, caramel, and a dry roasted tinge. Taste is some raisin, a bit of thick malt, and maybe a whisper from the barrel influence. Bit disjointed and scratchy in the mouth.

Bottle from 2009. Listed as an old ale, but is a barleywine on the bottle? It had that typical hint of bubble gum and a nice caramel malt flavor. Very good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from the bomber my brother picked up at the brewery. Aroma is of malt and whisky, closer to a dopplebock. Flavor is clean, and mostly whiskey. This beer really needs to be warmer.

Aged in bourbon kegs, this beer has a whiskey flavor, and especially scent. But, I find that the whiskey flavor comes out more in the smell. I enjoy whiskey, but the smell sometimes does get to me, it all depends on the day I guess. I tested not breathing out of my nose when drinking and I couldn’t taste the whiskey very much at all. But, nonetheless, the combination surprised me and thoroughly enjoy it. It is strong, of course due to the whiskey flavor, but your palate becomes used to it after some drinks of it. I went to the tasting room first to try it and the whiskey flavor was intense but a bottle my aunt bought and we had at our cabin later that night had way less of a whiskey flavor, but still very good. Tastes lighter to me then it looks.

22oz bottle, no date from Richard (IrishBoy), thank you for the extra! Clear garnet brown with a a small brown head, quickly fading to a very thin ring. Brown sugar, roasted malts and toffee dominate the nose, just a tinge of tobacco is noted with some vanilla and oak. Flavor has a larger roasted malt presence, and isn’t really sweet at all (not that the aroma led me to believe it was too sweet, but sweet nonetheless). All the other flavors are there, the vanilla and oak stronger, still not overpowering, thankfully. Just picked up on a tinge of soy once this got warmed up. Semi-dry finish with a little alcohol heat, bitterness at a 3. Low carbonation, full body (though not syrupy). Not too bad--better than I thought it’d be.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a tan head. Chocolate and malt aroma with light roast and light bourbon. Choclate and light bourbon flavor with light mollasses. Medium-plus bodied. Chocolate and bourbon lingers with light mollasses.
