4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bigabe (194) - California, USA - MAR 30, 2012Yes. Body of a heavy porter, but the nutty goodness of a brown. This beer is huge, but drinkable. Lots of nutty, woody, earthy brown ale notes in here, with a little booze tinge to warm. I love it.

Bottle. Black with a fizzy tan head. Nice rich coffee, chocolate, and roasted grain aroma and taste with some good nutty notes and a pleasant caramel presence. Thick bright and velvety palate with a roasty finish. Good.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a medium leather brown that showed plenty of transparency around the edges of my English pint glass while a nearly opaque brown filled the dead center of the liquid. Aroma is rich with lightly toasted malts that deliver on a bold fragrant smell of assorted roasted nuts. The flavor is rich and sweet with malts and promises on the flavors of both nut brown ale and porter and serves as an interesting hybrid combination. Nice price for a bomber which is why I didn’t hesitate to pick it up and buy now rather than months later from now when the beer has clearly expired—ewwww. Good thing I caught this while it was somewhat fresh on the shelf because I have serious doubts in regards to its aging life.

A thin head, on a deep, dark brown body.
The aroma is a wonderful roasted malt and a little dark chocolate.
The taste is moderate bitterness balanced well with the roasted malt and chocolate sweetness.
A fairly crisp texture, moderate carbonation and medium body.
A delicious beer.

22 oz. bottle from the Yosemite Valley Store in Yosemite National Park. Quite a bargain at $3.25, and there weren’t other bargains to be had at this place. Pours a dark brown, opaque from what I can tell, with a finger of creamy, foamy beige head. Aroma of lots of nuts, leaves, toasted malts, earth, and chocolate. Flavor of toasty, nutty malts, leaves, a little dark chocolate, and cold coffee with cream. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a toasty, nutty mouthfeel. Good porter/brown ale or whatever they’re going for here.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Beerenberger (783) - Fischer, Texas, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Nose of sweet roasted malts and hints of nuts. Pours a deep brown with a mostly diminishing tan head and minimal lacing. The taste is nutty with caramel and roasted malt notes. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Overall, this is a very enjoyable brown ale which I hope to be able to drink again.

Sampled courtesy of Moreau at GABF 2012. Pours a deep amber body with thick off white head. Aroma is cocoa, rich sweet malts and some grain and fruit. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with notes of light roast, toasted malts, light fruit and nuts. Ok porter/brown.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 laiti (3925) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUL 24, 2012
Draught @ the brewpub. Rated on 23.07.2012
Aroma is roasted with coffee, licorice and cocoa – feels like a stout. Flavour has nuts, roastiness and coffee – feels like a brown ale. And actually a very typical brown ale. And a good one.
