Redolent of coffee and dark chocolate, Double Nut Brown is our amped-up version of a traditional brown porter. This dark ale combines a mild sweetness with a finishing roasty dryness, and is brewed with roasted, brown and dark Munich malts.

A thin head, on a deep, dark brown body. The aroma is a wonderful roasted malt and a little dark chocolate. The taste is moderate bitterness balanced well with the roasted malt and chocolate sweetness. A fairly crisp texture, moderate carbonation and medium body. A delicious beer.

Bottle at home. Pours reddish brown with a small head. Aroma of roasted malts, light chocolate, red fruits, light nutty, hint of metal, mineral. Taste is moderate bitter, light sweet, light sour even, hint of metal, quite thin, dry finish, mineral aftertaste. Expected more.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Mid-brown, translucent with a a small tan head, most of which duly disappears. Lots of hazelnut, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. A bit of odd plastic scent as well. Tastes... hmmm. simultaneously sweet and sour with the sourness winning out. Not 100% sure it’s supposed to taste like this. Carbonation lifts the thin to medium body. Not much aftertaste but there’s a harsh lingering acidity. Odd and unbalanced.

Bottle at home. Hazy brown with small fizzy short lasting beige head. Looks a bit like unclear cola. There’s some light cola in the aroma as well, but more chocolate, blackberries, sour red berries, light dust and mineral. Light sweet and sour. Almost medium bodied with a bit dry and puckering feel. Probably infected, still not bad but also not very good.

Wow! Great brown ale. Wonderful, creamy, chocolatey and slight coffee flavor on the tongue. Beautiful in the glass and a nice head.
