3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very herby aroma. Sage in the taste. Spiciness really sticks around. Nice amount of bitterness. I really like this beer. Pours darker than I expected.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 ounce sample on tap at the Davis Graduate. The initial aroma is a bit spicy--perhaps there is some rye in this? Earthy hop notes are also present with a scant sweetness, too. Not overly aromatic, though. Transparent dark amber/cola-colored body with a small light tan head and decent lacing present. A little spicy hop flavoring to start. Maybe some rye? (in hindsight, I guess this was actually the sage/juniper). This has some chewy maltiness in the middle. Hints of chocolate and some roastiness also comes through. Tannins make an appearance before this finishes with more herbal, earthy hop flavor. Mildly bitter at the end. Decent.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark reddish, amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is an odd mix of juniper, sage, and sweet malt, with the hops taking a definite back seat on this one. Despite the odd aroma, the herbal flavor works. Lots of sweet malt and juniper up front with the hops coming through on the finish. Nice medium body, with average carbonation. Overall, not one I would drink everyday, but I am glad I tried it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 15, 2011 One of my favorite IPAs. One of my favorite beers period. It pours a darker, hazy maize, very strange for an IPA. Nose is sweet hops, lots of citrus. Depth of flavor is absolutely incredible... it gives you a sweet kiss at the beginning, then citrusy and floral hops hit you, then the finish is a perfect balance of sweetness, malt, and bitter hops. Itís a long finish, but nothing insanely long. Mammoth has created a beer that could easily have been WAY too complex, and muddy, but they have executed it with grace. This is a wonderful beer. Even those that donít like IPAs will enjoy this.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at a recent BA/RB tasting. Colour... amber with no head. Nose... juniper! And... juniper. Oh, and some hints of hops. Palate... a burst of, guess what.....? Juniper! Lots of that local sage which also gives it a vegetal hint, though not in a bad way. The hops show up mid-palate and linger on the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a deep reddish clear mahagony color with a nice slightly tan 1 finger head. Good lace. The aroma is a mixture of hops, cedar, and sage. It definitely has an herbal type aroma to it. Very interesting flavor. Not sure if I like it or not yet. Sweet malty backbone accented by a hoppy herbal like taste. Ends somewhat cleanly. Medium mouthfeel. I find myself keep drinking it so it must not be too bad. Not extremely hoppy or matly which is somewhat a surprise for a DIPA. The sage and juniper are fairly present and take center stage as they have such a pronounced aroma and taste. A unique beer to say the least. No real evidenceof the 8% abv.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
A: The pour is amber in color with a creamy off-white head.
S: The amount of sage in this beer is nearing ridiculous. And when you get passed the sage, there is juniper, and a lot of that too. Overall, a very vegetal and wild aroma.
T: A solid bitterness which is really the only thing that is reminiscent of an IPA in this beer. Lots of herbal notes, and the sage just takes over this beer.
M: Medium in terms of both body and carbonation.
D: This was just bad. I like sage in reasonable amounts in food, and juniper is a good herb as well (Iím a big gin fan), but this just does not work.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber from the liquor store in tahoe city. Crystal red with a big lasting head. Lots of juniper and sage in the aroma. A little hard to pick out any hops over the herbs. Pretty light and herbal with a strong herbal finish that has a decent bitterness and some lasting sweetness. Definitely not really an ipa as the herbs are the dominant character. Questionable marketing if you ask me.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma of sweet toffee, rosemary and pine hops. Appearance is reddish gold with tan head. Flavor matches the nose, with a little citrus as well. Palate is creamy and finishes lively. Pretty good stuff.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle/22oz - Poured a cloudy dark amber in color with a small off white head that quickly faded. Aroma was pretty strong, but not overpowering , of the sage and juniper along with some citrus hops. Flavor pretty well matched. Less of the hops come through, but the juniper, sage and other herbs (?) present a nice/pleasing flavor profile. Decent palate. Easy drinking and slight bitter on the the finish. I liked...
