3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 ounce sample on tap at the Davis Graduate. The initial aroma is a bit spicy--perhaps there is some rye in this? Earthy hop notes are also present with a scant sweetness, too. Not overly aromatic, though. Transparent dark amber/cola-colored body with a small light tan head and decent lacing present. A little spicy hop flavoring to start. Maybe some rye? (in hindsight, I guess this was actually the sage/juniper). This has some chewy maltiness in the middle. Hints of chocolate and some roastiness also comes through. Tannins make an appearance before this finishes with more herbal, earthy hop flavor. Mildly bitter at the end. Decent.

Draft in Mammoth, CA. Pours clear medium brown with a frothy off white head. The flavor is not like a typical IPA. The taste is mellow, nutty, malty, with a hint of grapefruit. Medium hops. Light body and medium carbonation. Mild aroma of nuts, malt, grapefruit, and fruity sweetness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Delicious, the spicy hops, herbs and malts make this wonderful. The aroma of sage, rosemary and juniper berries. The palate is nice and rich with the flavored of the forest, perfect for the mountain.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours color of Assam tea, this double IPA is malt-forward on the aroma, little head or lasting lace, huge malty middle-palate of cooked dates with ginger notes, finishing very sweet not bitter. It says itís brewed with juniper berries and sage, but Iím not getting those notes separating out. A rich, interesting, full-flavored beer for sure.
