A true winter warmer to sip by the fire, Lair of the Bear is a hefty Russian Imperial Stout with an O.G. of 22 Plato. Our brewers fermented this stout with our proprietary yeast in stainless for two weeks then racked into freshly emptied Heavenly Hills Bourbon barrels and allow the beer to rest for 7 months. Enjoy now r age for as long as you like but beware the Lair of the Bear may put you in hibernation.

22 oz bottle thanks to Adam. 2013 vintage. Aroma is and flavor is well integrated bourbon. Nearly has a rye whiskey note, chocolate, dried leaves and semi sweet chocolate.

Body is full with a dry texture. Real mellow nuances of bourbon. Vanilla, oak, cocoa nibs, and some sort of light earthy bitterness. Mild oak that gives a dry texture on the palate. Well hidden ABV. I canít say enough great things about this stout. The depth of flavor is unreal.

22 oz. bottle. It pours a very dark brown/black color with a dark tan head. The aroma is very chocolaty/fudgy with some toast, graham cracker and roasted malt. The flavor is really nice with mild acidic roast melding nicely with some raisin and plum. The acidity really accentuates the dark fruit character. Burnt toast and roasted malt in the finish. I was shocked that I didnít get much if any bourbon character here. Maybe a hint of oaky dryness, but thatís it. A fun and tasty beer.

This beer has a very beautiful black color with coffee colored rich full head. It has a great aroma of mocha. It has coffee and chocolate flavors and the head adds an amazing creaminess. It has subtle vanilla bourbon notes that put it over the edge. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber purchased fourteen months ago at Mammoth Liquors in the town of Mammoth Lakes while on a snowboarding trip ($11.95). Pours a thick inky true pitch black with two fingers of possibly the darkest brown foam that I have encountered. AROMA of hard roasted dark malts, dark chocolate, bourbon, old wet oak, with some vanilla and coffee. FLAVOR of dark high-cacao artisan chocolate, lightly smoked dark malts, mellow bourbon, significant vanilla, and semi-sweet fudge brownie. A little hot in the finish. Very thick and chewy mouthfeel with a bubbly carbonation that is surprising for the style. Not a huge level of complexity here, but the flavors are big and blend together well, making this quite quaffable. A great effort from the fine folks up in Mammoth. (18, 852)

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2014 Black as tar. Aroma is dark fruit and red wine. Taste- very rich roasted malts. Vineous and fruity. Some notes of dark chocolate, bourbon and coffee. Bubbly carbonation. Taste is pretty good but not fond of the carbonation. A little too much. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, oak and vanilla and bourbon, chocolate and light coffee, and some light notes of dark fruits. Flavor the same with the roast and oak maybe a hint too harsh, but still enjoyable. Smooth texture. A nice BA imperial stout, but could be a little more refined.

22oz bottle brought back from the brewery and shared with a good friend. Thanks Kevin! Pours pitch black with a nice tan head. Bourbon nose along with some chocolate maltiness. Roasted malt and bourbon flavors followed by dark chocolates, coffee and vanilla. Very nicely balanced and creamy. The alcohol is well hidden, the finish is roasty, bourbon, chocolaty goodness! Very nice! Thanks again Kevin for sharing this with me.

Bottle from Deekyn - thanks! Still had the Yosemite bottle deposit sticker on it. Pours opaque black with a medium dark brown creamy head that dissipates with nice lacing. Very nice aroma, bourbon forward, but not overpowering, chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, molasses. Flavor is medium sweet with a good amount of bitterness, very rich, almost decadent with bourbon, chocolate and vanilla taking center stage. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. This is a nice beer that deserves more recognition.
