A true winter warmer to sip by the fire, Lair of the Bear is a hefty Russian Imperial Stout with an O.G. of 22 Plato. Our brewers fermented this stout with our proprietary yeast in stainless for two weeks then racked into freshly emptied Heavenly Hills Bourbon barrels and allow the beer to rest for 7 months. Enjoy now r age for as long as you like but beware the Lair of the Bear may put you in hibernation.

22oz bottle brought back from the brewery and shared with a good friend. Thanks Kevin! Pours pitch black with a nice tan head. Bourbon nose along with some chocolate maltiness. Roasted malt and bourbon flavors followed by dark chocolates, coffee and vanilla. Very nicely balanced and creamy. The alcohol is well hidden, the finish is roasty, bourbon, chocolaty goodness! Very nice! Thanks again Kevin for sharing this with me.

Funny looking 50cl bottle pours a murky black with some wispy, brown head. Nose is molasses, chocolate malt, smoke, toast. Flavor is chewy with malt and molasses, toast, bread crust. Chewy finish.

(Mammoth Lair of the Bear) Bottle 500ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 9.5% Pitch black coloured body with a thick pour. Tall and thick dark brown head on top, quite good retention. Aroma mostly of bourbon, some liquorice, vanilla, chocolate and moccha, smells great! Taste follows, sweet with lots of bourbon and vanilla, light roasted malts, dark chocolate, moccha, fudge, chocolate cake, quite some alcohol on the finish. Thick body with good carbonation, sticky palate. Amazing beer.

May 2016 - Bottle share at Floor 42. As ’Mammoth Lair of the Bear’, 9.5%, aged on Heaven Hill barrels. Picked up at Bottle Shop for £18 a bottle. Opaque black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is chocolate syrup, woody bourbon, coconut, coffee, syrupy. Body is smooth with tingly carbonation. Taste is spicy and woody up front, chocolate, coconut, vanilla, bourbon. Pretty spicy and oaky. A very good stout. (4.0)

50cl bottle at home. Pitch black with an espresso head and thin strips of carbonation. Huge bourbon notes in the nose, followed by vanilla, coconut, milk chocolate, toffe. The taste follows the same notes, heavy on the bourbon, vanilla and toffe. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and a bourbon sweet and spicy aftertaste. Lacking a bit in the roasted malt department, but otherwise an excellent beer.

(En fût au Machete Beer House): Une bête décadente avec une multitude de sucres qui forment une belle complexité, chocolat au lait, mélasse, coco et un enrobage praliné. La présence de la barrique est très présente mais jamais encombrante.

Bottle shared at the level 42, 24/05/2016. Many thanks to Daniel for this one. Pitch black viscous pour with a lasting dark tan head. Aroma is big nutty coconut, spicy roast coffee bean, vanilla pecan, creme caramel. Flavour is composed of big sweet coconut, peanut butter, spicy coffee bean, praline. Lovely marshmallow, really good. Palate is full bodied, velvety, moderate frothy carbonation. Very good.
