COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a full body and robust flavor, it’s no wonder why Catherine the Great requested this high octane style of stout for her Imperial court. Despite the name, Russian Imperial Stout was originally an English style, brewed with a high alcohol content and an increased amount of hops to preserve the beer on it’s long voyage to Russia. Although ours won’t make the same journey, we followed the same philosophy. At nearly double digit alcohol and plenty of hops for an assertive bitterness, the real focus is the roasted malts providing the rich flavors of coffee and chocolate. Pairs well with hearty dishes like the braised short ribs, but we prefer drinking one alongside a rich chocolate dessert such as the chocolate combustion cake. 9.1% ABV, 65 IBUs

Bottle.
Appearance: Lighter shade of black, deep chestnut.
Aroma: Bourbon is noted with some cinnamon, a bit weak on the aroma.
Taste: A bit thin, bourbon is noted. Mellow flavor, some chocolate, no roast noted.
Palate: A bit thin leaning, mild carbonation.
Overall: Lacks body, lacks aroma, lacks taste. Just overall lacking, tastes like a thin stout aged in bourbon barrels.

Bomber of this from Wegman’s Collegeville. Pours hazy dark brownish with ruby highlights and tan head. Nose is dark malt, cacao, vinous fruity mild hops. Tastes malty, somewhat charred, with cacao, hops, and a very tannic and bitter finish. OK, not great.

Dark with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits, and molasses. Ful bodied. Chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits, and vanilla in the flavor. This one really comes together nicely and makes for a great winter sipper.

Tap at TJs. Pours a deep black with a medium creamy tan head that left a ton of lacing. Aroma of rich chocolate notes, cherries, vanilla, dark fruits, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor of roasted malt, cherries, caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Well done RIS. One of the best manayunk beers I have had.
