COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AMERICAN BARLEY WINE-STYLE ALE This winter warmer will knock the chill away until summer. It used as much malt as our brew house can handle and armloads of fresh hops and lovingly laid in our fermentor for four months. Massively malty and balanced with burly bitterness it is truly the king of beers, approaching wine in strength. A definitive one to have when you’re only having one. Adoringly served in brandy snifters to preserve precious properties. 12.7% ABV, 100+ IBUs

On draft at Capones. Pours a semi clear light amber with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of light piny citrus, bread malts and toffee. Taste of piny citrus, bread malts, hops and fruit. Very nice and different for a barley wine.

Draft @ Capones: Poured an orange color with a nice white head. The aroma was malts, hops, citrus and pine. The flavor was dark fruit, caramel, slight hops and alcohol. Overall, this 2007 vintage could still use another year of aging, but this is some quality stuff.

Draught at Capone’s (2007 Vintage): Aroma of hops, grapefruit, slight pine, slight dark fruits, and a hint of toffee. Poured orange in color with a medium-sized, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Slightly hazy. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of hops, pine, malts, slight caramel, resin, and a hint of dark ripe fruits. Medium body. Thick, creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, hoppy, pine finish. 12.7%ABV is totally hidden.

Tap @ Capones. Auburn pour. This is officially the first barley wine that i appreciate tasting. Will need to explore this genre of beer. Great flavored.

[2007 Draft @ Capones] Poured a reddish / dark golden color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus, pine, oxidation, dark fruits, toast, and a bit of alcohol. Taste of citrus fruits, pine, dried fruits, caramel, honey, toast, bitter hops, and a fair amount of alcohol in the finish.

Draft at Capones. Pours a murky brown body with a thin lacing. Dry musky wood, a bit vinous with some lighter fruit character and liquid caramel notes. Some lighter fruity esters and a surprisingly light etoh warming.

Pours a translucent golden amber with a smaller off white bubbly head. Aroma of tangerines, grapefruit, some sweet caramel malts. Flavor of hops, dry for a BW, light alcohol and some caramel.

Nice IPA aroma. Thin overhopped astringent taste is not particularly well balanced by the malt. Not bad, but still a disappointment.

On tap at the Manayunk Brew Pub. Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, citrus, and some dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, ctirus, dark fruits and light nuts. Light to medium alcohol finish. Nice balance (mmmm, 100 IBUs that balanced out the maltiness).

Tangerine color with a light ring of carbonation. Nice light-medium candi malt aroma with alcohol well masked in taste. This beer would benefit from another 6-12 months of aging as it was quite green and bitter.
