Commercial Description:
The Oatmeal Stout is a variant of the traditional sweet stout. It is generally less sweet and adds a generous amount of flaked oats for a smooth mouth feel and creamy texture. The mild aroma of roasted grains combines with the light sweetness to give the impression of coffee and cream. Dark caramel malts are balanced out with a small addition of English Fuggle hops that give a just a hint of earthy presence.

Try one for breakfast or lunch for a knockout day.

Draft at the brewpub. Deep brown, almost black, with a thin beige head. Roasty aroma, a little bit of chocolate. The flavor has the typical oatmeal stout mouthfeel and sweetness, with nice roasted malt notes and some coffee in the finish. Pretty good.

Tap at the brewpub. Aroma a touch soapy with some coffee and sweet chocolate. Flavor of some coffee and roasted malt. The sweet chocolate tried to return in the finish, but this and much of the flavor was covered up by astringency. Weak bodied to boot. Unimpressive.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is very sweet, of molasses and Hershey’s syrup. Flavor of coffee, roasted malt. Thin-bodied but decent. 7/4/7/3/14 (3.5/5)

On tap at the brewery. Nice rich malt aroma with coffee and chocolate and some lactose. Mild hops with some good fruity character. Sweet and rich. Dark brown-black clear with quickly dissipating tan head. Medium watery body with medium high carbonation, light carbonic acidity. Starts fairly sweet with cocoa and coffee, mild vanilla. Dry hoppy finish with decent bitter character. Carbonic acidity lasts for a while. Dry watery after.

Weak oatmeal stout. Very empty mouthfeel. The flavors are dull and lifeless. Not very much roast, a bit too sweet, and overall just not very tasty. Skip it.

Pours a deep brown with amber highlights and an average creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate malt, touch of roastiness, some coffee and oats. Flavor was a mix of the same...creamy yet a substantial amount of roast.
