The inspiration for this brew originates in the night of January 27th in the year 1687. The moon projected its reddish glow on Saint Rumbold’s tower, which was wrapped in a dense fog. “Fire, fire, the tower is on fire!” shouts the dreary voice of a drunken man. The alarm was sounded and people were making haste to help extinguish the so-called fire. Before the tower was reached, the moon slowly moved through the fog. From that moment on, the Mechelenians are called the Maneblussers or “Moon extinguishers”. To commemorate their heroic deed, we brew a heroic beer called The Maneblusser. A blonde beer with an alcohol percentage of 6 % VOL. Brewed according to the traditional method of high fermentation with refermentation in the bottle. For the heroic Mechelenians, but not exclusively of course.

Bottle at home. Nice looking bottle. I like the wee fireman motif. Pours a handsome hazy Gold with a thick, tall White head. Nice notes of peppery yeast and coriander. Quite fizzy. Fruity and rewarding flavour. Dry and bitter with a bit of honeydew. Pretty decent gear.

Strong "cassonade" aroma. Rather weak since I had strong expectation of this tribute to the mechelen legend.

Odeur de cassonade. Bière dorée. Gout de froment/ grain. Elle retombe vite. On goute bien l’alcool. peu d’intérêt.

Hard to way something on this beer. It’s a beer, nothing more, nothing less. Aroma is a bit weak. The taste simple (no evolution), and the aftertaste is plain wheat. Well, that doesn’t make it a bad beer, just not the one you should definitely try right now.

(Bottle, Herman Belgian Bar, Berlin, 17 July 2015) Hazy yellow colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of bread, peaches and hay. Malty, fruity taste with bread, peaches, a touch of citrus and a gentle grassy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
