22oz bomber from Spirits Brick. Poured a clear burnt orange body with a smaller foamy white head. Aroma/flavor can be wrapped up as grains/grapes and grapefruit. Palate is big chewy and unforgiving, there is no question that this is an Imperial beer and the double digit ABV shines through big time. Wish the aroma/flavor was a bit more subtle but it’s basically smack you in your face bitterness, which drops this whole beer to meh :-(

Draft at Moriartys. Clear orange gold with a slight foamy ring. No lace. Sugary malts. Strong earthy resins. Candied orange peels. Pineapple cores. Apricot pits. Varnish. Strong alcohol taste. Smooth caramel with a spicy hop bite. Body thickens towards the finish. Feels a bit like a Barleywine. Better than expected.

Have no idea of this brewery, so completely open on tasting this one. From the can and into a chalice. Radiant, bright copper with minimal fine carbonation and a fleeting, whispy white head that leaves a thinning lace. Big, unmissable, unpassable pineapple juice nose - sweet and candyish, with just a hint of gooseberry and apricot. Complete 360˚ flip on the palate. Dry and parching, pine-wood and saw-dust dominated palate with a burnt sugar and matchstick back end and supple fruit finish. Moderate bitterness, fragrant, floral hops start to penetrate. Lovely finish in fact. Alcohol remains hidden but is felt and hits hard. Body is oily, resinous, medium, with very soft carbonation. Apricot and peach, lychee and gooseberry come through as does a little candied strawberry. Grows on you. From dry to sticky, parched to sweet, this one gives more and more with each sip. Quite like it and I don’t know why! (12fl.Oz can, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

This is a nice double IPA. Not really sweet at all. The hop character is more that of a regular IPA. Floral with bittering hops. Overall quite good. A little light in color.

>> Labeled as "Oceanside Ale Works Chaotic IPA", later discovered to be incorrect. Drank this under protest.Clear orange pour with minimal foam. Sticky orange and chemical nose, pine, herbal. Taste is sticky, thick, heavy pine, heavy stomach body. Can’t do this types of beers anymore, plus keg was probably not fresh.

Poured with a nice head and some lace. Colors a clear golden amber. Aroma is a resiny hop malt with some spice. Flavor is like nose of course only richer and on the sweet side. Decent body. Good drinking beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at Jernigans. Flavors are all present for a good DIPA but it lacks a bit of body. Nice fruited hop finish.

Bottle from Pazzeria, Milan
Light amber color, clean and bright, with generous compact head. Powerful hoppy aroma, classic, with a mild animal side. Full bodied but lean, not thick, with moderate residual sweetness, pleasant and not cloying; dynamic caramel and toffee flavor, compounded by a fresh jam fruity character; the bitterness is well controlled, and overall this beer has a good balance. Highly drinkable.

Bottled. Pours light gold with good carbonation and a lacy white head. Good nucleation makes for a great appearance. Immediate aroma smothered with orange citrus and grapefruit and a hint of buttery diacetyl underneath. Flavor leans sweet and malty rather than dry and peppery; crystal malt sweetness fades into a beatdown of hops and high alcohol. Notes of rum cake, butterscotch, white raisin. Finish is rather difficult to muster; just a bit over the top for me, lacking the balance and crisp peppery dryness only found in a few top-tier double IPA’s. Still rather enjoyable, I hope to try more of their beers soon.
