3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Sprouts Eastlake: Liquid appeared as a tea brown hue and was topped by a fizzy head which eventually flat lined. In the aroma my nose picks up on a wide assortment of scents with the first being a thick base of caramel/toffee like malts while a bold smell of sour grape juice and raisins dominate. The flavor is sweet with a sugary taste of caramel while a background of sweet raisins and dark rich plum thrive. This is heavy hitting sweet barley wine but somehow stills falls short of being a home run.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pours medium brown-orange with thin brief white head. Aroma caramel apples with hint of bourbon. Taste brown sugar, caramel with fruits, some bourbon and a nice hop bite. Palate medium-thick with slight carbonation. Finish a mix of sweetness and hops.
I liked this one, definitely hoppier than the English barleywines but not so muxh as to be overbearing. Just a touch of bourbon.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Expensive as hell waxed 12oz bottle. It pours a nearly clear deep pale copper with thin near white head. The aroma offers up a bouquet of sweet sticky malts, some pine hops and then coconut and then a smooth whiskey sensation. The taste is just solid. I get aged sweet malts and pine hop flavor mixing with a mild level of pine hop bitterness. Those notes slide into smooth rich and candy like sweet whiskey as well as a bit of coconut. Nice stuff here creating a tasty balance between the yummy base beer and the barrel treatment. Kudos for not over barrel aging this like sooooo many other brews out there.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a copper color with a khaki colored head. The nose starts off with mild vanilla and whiskey. There’s some caramel and toffee notes, along with hints of oak and fruit. Mild oxidation is present as well. The flavor is sugary, almost a touch grainy. Carmel and sugar, light toffee and vanilla. Very restrained whiskey, some oak, light oxidation, and a touch of fruit.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle, no date at Beverages 4 Less for $9.99. Hazy auburn brown with a one finger yellowish white head, wet and creamy. Aroma has a lot of caramel toffee notes with a good amount of sweet ripe cherries, light whiskey barrel. Flavor is much the same--fairly sweet with some sweet cherry notes, a little oxidation, and more whiskey notes. Alcohol in the semi-dry finish, old earthy bitterness peaked at a 3-4. Full body with light smooth carbonation. Not bad, but not $10.00/12oz good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear caramel red pour with no head. Aroma is unbalanced hot whiskey, sweet malt, raisins, light oak, and perhaps some sweeter grape type notes. Taste is awkward, muddled sweet malt, fairly sharp whiskey, spice from the alcohol, and lingering heat. Mouth feel is prickly, hot, and way too closed. Did not care for this beer and especially so at $10.00 for a 12 ounce bottle.
