On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. Nose - big tangy oranges. A mineral backdrop. Taste - more oranges going into marmalade. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy and rich texture that still manages to finish dry and balanced finish. Overall - lovely beer.

On draft at the Kings Arms, London. It pours a clean golden color with a small white head. Aroma is grassy hops and tea leaves, with some citrus peel. Taste is mildly bitter with a light biscuity background. Flavours of piny hops and tea leaves, some light black pepper. Body is medium and well carbonated. Overall, interesting and easy drinking.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden on 14th November 2014. Clear amber with thinning, loose shallow off-white foam and spot lacing. Complex aroma with grapefruit, tangerine and sophisticated touch of smoke. Sweet tangerine and delicate smoke in-mouth; Earl Grey tea notes developing in finish which is fine and delicate. A light mouthfeel and reasonable amount of body. This is a classy novelty ale from Marble, and a must!

Sample at aibf2014. Golden with white head. Smell is like cold earl grey tea with spices and floral hops. Taste is light grain and fruit. The earl grey tea is balanced with the hoppy grass and spices. Dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation.

Draught at All In Beer Fest 2014, Göteborg. Clear pale golden/yellow beer with a small offwhite head. Hoppy tea aroma, grassy, hay, herbal, citrus notes. Hoppy tea flavor, grassy, hay, herbal notes. A bit odd.

Cask @ Grove Huddersfield. Fruity peach floral aroma. Zingy prickly hops in mouth. Slightly bitter grapefruit pithy taste. Bergomot hidden but is balanced within, comes through slowly on the finish with a softer mouthfeel once the hops have subsided. Very good IPA and much better and more complex than Dobber imo.

Ten years ago, Marble ran Greater Manchester with an iron fist. Although there wasn’t a great deal of competition, their trademark taste and excellent venues put them effortlessly at the top. But as more recent local success stories like First Chop have been steadily on the up & up, Marble have fallen off badly by adopting marketing strategies that make you want to punch them in the face, such as re-decorating the Chorlton bar in dull "tasteful" pantone colours seemingly borrowed from a Habitat showroom thereby killing the atmosphere almost stone dead; over-gentrifying & overpricing the food menu at the brewery to the point where I stopped going even though it’s one of my favourite buildings in the city; and naming one of their beers "Pint" (aaaaaaarrrrggghhhhh). This, along with a lack of new lines available in bottles, has sadly put a brewery that was once one of my favourites in a state of purgatory. Thank goodness, then, for this fine new effort, an inspired twist on their easily recognisable signature style. I first had it on tap at their Thomas Street bar, where it blew me away. The bottles are a solid second best, and thankfully they seem to be fairly widely available - locally at Beermoth on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter, or for a quid cheaper at the tremendous new Epicurean on Burton Road in West Didsbury. My only criticism is that as a big tea drinker and earl grey lover it doesn’t taste enough like tea to me, so I’d love to see a more intense variation on the theme in the future.
