2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap @ Borefts 2011. Dark cloudy brown with no head. Aroma is chocolate pudding with a subtle hint of coffee. Very thin on the palate with very little flavour. Some taste of chocolate and mocha. Somewhat disappointing.

2.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
The brewery was calling this a stout at the fest. And it was on cask. Dark brown, can see right through it. Not very stoutish. Flat, no head, no lacing. Roasted aroma with cabbage and cream corn. Tastes the same. Not very good.

Cask (GBBF2011, Wed)
Looks great - dark and with a spongy beige head. Choco aroma, but more roast grain than artificially added chocolate. Massive roasty burnt taste, just shy of ashiness. Such a scrummy stout. Finish is a touch burnt and bitter.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
[500ml bottle, The Bottle, York] Deep blackish brown pour with a decent white head. Very inviting aromas of dark chocolate malt and coffee, plenty of ashy, roasted malt aromas. More coffee on the taste, although the chocolate comes on at the end. Very well balanced, it’s a smooth drinker – as many Marble beers are – the finish is particularly good. Some bitterness in there from the coffee, but a sweet, lasting creaminess. Very nice stuff

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very black, almost opaque. Just get a tiny red glow if you hold it up to a light. Big foamy browny beige head. Aroma is a bit smoky and quite a bit chocolatey. Also a little bit of an alcohol smell that you would expect from something much stronger. Taste is initially quite subtle chocolate with a bit of bitterness with more chocolate coming through and lingering at the end. Very nice drinking experience, medium bodied and a little bit thick and creamy. Very nice!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at GBBF 2011. It pours opaque black, with a thin foamy beige head. The nose is bitter chocolate, sage, roasted malt, bonfire and peat. The taste is coffee, bitter chocolate, soy sauce, roasted malt and dried fruit, with a solid bitter-dry finish. Full body and soft carbonation. A very flavoursome cask porter.
