Good Russian imperial stout, but somehow I expected more from it. Good beer, but not brilliant.

Marble Arch, Manchester 27 Jan 13. Svart. Lavt, litt farget skum med litt lacing. Søt & god sherryaroma med hint av lakris. Smaken balansert. Litt svisker. Kaffe. Sjokolade. Lakris. Litt tørr syrlig ettersmak.

Bottle to glass. Black pour with a strong staying thick khaki head. Nose is sweet raisins, dark chocolate, fudge. taste is dark chocolate fudge, sweet fruits, a bit boozy. A lot of carbonation in here. Long sweet finish. A little thin bodied, but it’s good.

Pours jet black with no head. Aroma of malt, slight chocolate and roast. Taste is malty, bitter, roasty. Kinda one dimensional. Not too exciting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drunk this now many time, bottles at home and on cask at The Vintage, Leith. This is a fantastic beer. Subtle and balanced. Subtle in this way is not a bad thing. The chocolate, coffee, caramel, tobacco, apple, liquorice and toffee flavours and i’m guessing many other flavours are all subtle and balanced. This is a top notch beer.

750 ml bottle purchased at Oliver’s Beverage Center, Albany. Label reads best before 4/28/2013. Pitch black color with thin tan head. Nose is roasted malts, licorice and ash. Flavor is big English malts with deep roast, burnt day old coffee and a touch what tastes like smoked malt. Even with it a touch past it’s prime, still real decent.

Bottle 750 c&c shared by Marcus. Pours dark brown/black with a slight transient dark tan head. Aroma is smoky, mildly fruity with mildly oaky, smooth burnt malt. Med body. Flavor is mild fruit, wood, smoke, dark malt. A very laid back IS. Quite nice. Subtle is the word.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours near black with a disappearing tan head and a burnt malt aroma. There is a complex flavor that includes treacle, chocolate, smoke and a little coffee.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of roast chocolate malt, cocoa, vanilla, dark fruits, slight sherry oxidation and coffee roast. Touch of molasses. Medium body. Well balanced. Subtle oxidation actually plays well with this.
