330 ml bottle sampled in 2008. Pitch black body with a big, dense beige head that fades rather quickly. Nice, but not very strong aroma of roasted malt and some liquorice. Flvor is sweet, dark, roasted malt, coffee, tar and dry fruit. Flavor is dark, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and dry fruit with balanced bitterness and warming alcohol. Fine body and a good aftertaste. Smooth and nice.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2013 75ml Bottle at home from Alesela
Hazy, thick dark brown with a fluffy tan head. Soy sauce, tobacco ash and worcestershire sauce on the nose. Fairly sharp, tangy and full bodied with medium carbonation, toffee, umami, coffee, marmite of autolysed yeast, dry roast barley, sweet malts in the finish. Citrus appears, warming alcohol, ashen. V complex beer no doubt changed by the age of it, all it needs for perfection is somebrett to mop up a touch of the residual sugar and it’d be a 5 from me. as it is loved it and would drink again.

750ml bottle, pours jet black with a small foamy head and steady carbonation. Aroma of roasty, caramel malts, chocolate, tobacco, apple. Finish is dry and bitter. Well put together Imperial Stout with lots of roasted & burnt malt character and a nice tangy apple balance, almost excellent.

Half pint, as Decadence Imperial Russian Stout 8,4 % abv., poured from cask at the Marble Arch Inn. Cream-like, tan-colured head. Fragile lacing. Devil-black body. Mocha chocolate to the nose. Fine taste character of cocoa, plums, and woody vanilla. Lingering bittersweet finish with warming alcohol. Velvety mouthfeel. Full bodied. Enjoying sipper (Manchester, 27.01.2013).

750ml bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge, drunk at Tim’s, 15/02/13. Opaque black-brown. Choc head, disappearing. Spicy dark choc & grapefruit aroma. Good, solid choc malt body, but hard to detect it, because it’s so hoppy! The hoppiest stout i’ve tried in a while, but not unbalanced. Lots of pine, grapefruit and really aromatic, resinous american hop. Mid-heavy body, lightly fizzy on tongue. Nice, intensely aromatic hoppy, sticky choc malt aftertaste. Eff-ing lovely & delicious!

Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate. Dark malts, very tangy - almost appley! A little cream. Subtle roast and chocolate. Finishes smooth. Nice tangy stout, smooth and tasty.

Cask at IndyManBeerCon, 2012. It pours opaque black, with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, spice, plum, raisin, currant, treacle, light tanginess, toast and saltiness. The taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, cherry, raisin, plum, sour fruitiness, varnish, toast, subtle balsamic vinegar, saltiness, spice and umami aspect, with a bitter-sweet finish. Full body and soft carbonation. Smooth, complex and well-balanced.

750 ml bottle . Quit fizzy tan head disappeared quite quickly . Smells of liquorice and slightly fruity, flavour is liquorice, wood tabaco molasses quite a deep flavour with a thick mouth feel smooth ever so slightly like an IPA flavour poking through , recommended

Had on hand pump at York Tap--just 1.50 a half! This is quite a strong beer with the alcohol content masked so well, so be careful! Quite roasty, chocolaty, with even an espresso character. What a steal for the price.
