4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Rockcrawler (197) - Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA - APR 16, 2010
From very fresh keg just brought home from Marble Brewery. Pours a slightly hazed orange with thick head. Incredibly pungent hop aroma emanates from this beer with strong notes of citrus. The taste follows the smell, the hop bite is as intense as they come with little malt. When i say the hop bite is intense i mean INTENSE, so strong it would put off anyone who doesn’t love hops, but this is partially accountable to the freshness of the keg. Body is medium light, bitterness subsides quite well and doesn’t stick considering how strong it initially is. Personally, I love it. Rock solid!

Tap at the brewery. This was effing solid, just like their single IPA. Nose of orange peel, malt, resin and dank hops. Flavor very much the same - a perfect bitter twang where the hops overbalance the malts just so. Fragrant and refreshing.

Stinky. First sip is a punch in the face. Pucker up. But everyone is spot on this is really good towards the end of that bomber, I wish I had more.

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2011 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a thick white head. Aroma is a bit odd -- lots of grassy hops, kinda smells like onion grass mixed with a sweaty gym bag. It gets better once you get used to the oddness. Flavor is pretty similar with the same onion grass/sweat qualities, plus some hop resins and a solid caramel malt base. Bitter finish. Took a little while to warm up to but by the end it was quite enjoyable. Great IIPA!

Update 7/30/2011: Had on tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange red with a thick white head. Aroma of lots of sweaty, piney, and grassy hops. Flavor of lots of caramel malts, bitter hops, and some sweaty hops. Solid malt backbone, overall the beer is fairly malty. Hmm, looks like my ratings from both tap and bottle are nearly identical! 8/4/8/4/14 [3.8/5]
