3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
from the cask at papago 7/28/10.
clear. worn penny - rich coppery color with a soft airy cask head.
it smells like sunshine would!... resinous, orange, grapefruit, wood, flowers and caramel.
the palate is a touch sweeter than i would ideally like but it is incredibly hoppy... citrus, dank, wood, toasty grain, caramel and a little ashiness on the finish.
the body is a bit too rich and slick for me toward the bottom of the glass but in small doses or with regular carbonation i am sure this is quite good. 8/3/7/3/15/3.6

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2011 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a thick white head. Aroma is a bit odd -- lots of grassy hops, kinda smells like onion grass mixed with a sweaty gym bag. It gets better once you get used to the oddness. Flavor is pretty similar with the same onion grass/sweat qualities, plus some hop resins and a solid caramel malt base. Bitter finish. Took a little while to warm up to but by the end it was quite enjoyable. Great IIPA!
Update 7/30/2011: Had on tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange red with a thick white head. Aroma of lots of sweaty, piney, and grassy hops. Flavor of lots of caramel malts, bitter hops, and some sweaty hops. Solid malt backbone, overall the beer is fairly malty. Hmm, looks like my ratings from both tap and bottle are nearly identical! 8/4/8/4/14 [3.8/5]

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours out a darkish golden, near copper hue with a small rocky head. The aroma can be picked out inches away--candied grapefruit, pine resin, caramel, with a touch of cantaloupe tropicalness. Big full flavor with much hoppy bitterness, pine notes, a little leafy resin, grassy earthiness, with not as much of a tropical sweetness or malty caramel backbone as the aroma would have me believe. Made for pine-hungry hop heads, not for me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle shared by my good friend John. Thanks for bringing this back and sharing it with me! My first New Mexico beer. Bottled on 3/13/11 and tasted in late July. Lots of orange and mandarin citrus hops present to begin with--fairly pleasant and nicely quaffable. Mildly hazy golden body with a medium strong off-yellow head present. Starts chewy with citrus orange, and some mildly hemp-like hoppiness. Lightly astringent in the middle. Finishes dry with some pine hops present. A good deal of "C" hops are here. Not too shabby, but it does seem a bit one-dimensional for my tastes. I imagine this beer is pretty killer if it is fresher.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle via trade with brokephibroke. Hazy medium orange body, thin clumping cream head with significant lacing. Nose of floral and citrusy hops, caky yeast, breast malts, and hints of alcohol. Dense body, lots of citrus and pine with robust bitterness and a yeasty, toasty body with hints of alcohol. Slightly oxidized. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
tap a few times and a few bottles as well-composite rating over the past few months. copper/orange hue with a nice froathy white head. floral, citrus, tropical nose-in the bottles its a bit more piney i noticed. i had it once on tap at the santa fe location and it was way more floral. Then, this sample i had at the brewpub was a bit more harsh/dirty hops. the tap version i had at the brewery seemed a bit off from the samples i have had before-the finish didnt come together very well-really maltless and had lack of depth whereas the balance was a bit better on the bottle and the tap from santa fe back around new years. A decent DIPA that seems to change from place to place. However, for NM, this is the best we have!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pint at Marble tap room in Sante Fe. Their IPA is amazing so my hopes were high for this. It did not disappoint. Super clean resinous hop aroma with inoffensive malts. The palate is perfect for the style. Bitter citrus and pine make up the flavor. It’s very textbook IIPA but delicious and well crafted. I am a fan!
