4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
13th December 2011
Hazy red - brown beer, very hazy. Tidy off white head. My favourite sort of palate - softish with a carbonated sting. Slightly dry. Mild creamy malt backbone. Lovely sweet hops and things. Fresh tangerine - orange and a little peach. Tropical fruits as well. Mild mint and pine and even a little red berry fruits. Finishes smooth with mild hop bitterness. Hugely drinkable and delicious. Nice one Marble!

Bottle caged and corked. Poured a dark cloudy brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted malt and spice aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer that is excellent for style.

750 c&c from Malt & Vine. BBF 01/10/14 Pours lightly hazy copper with a 3.5 finger creamy/frothy beige head. Aromas of malt and fruit. Spicy even. Full bodied. Flavor is herbal, fruity and mildly spicy. Gruit? Damn tasty stuff. Definitely dryish and heading towards bitter, with some sharp spice and citrus/pine hop. Brilliant effing ale.

Pours a orange kissed ochre color with a big frothy three finger head. Aromas are a mix herbaceous notes balanced with ripe fruit and a slight touch of barnyard brett hints. On the palate it is very well balanced with great hop presence playing off a slightly earthy spicy maltiness thats all wrapped in a funky yeasty barrage of flavors.... brett, pear, pine, grapefruit.... YUM !

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled (I think) at Big Beers and Barley Wines. This was getting really late in the evening so the notes are cryptic at best. It was a fairly classic old ale with nice malt but also that flat, hoppy bitterness in the finish. Pleasant.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer is medium to dark amber in color and pretty transparent. The head is off-white and relatively small. The aroma has a whole bunch of toasty caramel malt and pine resin-grass-mineral-orange rind hops. There’s a fruity note to the malt that leans towards peaches and apricots. Taste is closest to a strong American amber for me, though with a bit more body, I’d call it a relatively hoppy barleywine. There’s plenty of hop flavor and a health dose of bitterness. Big malt backbone of sweet caramel and toasted biscuit. Good balance between the two elements with neither the hops nor the malt really winning out clearly. Mouthfeel is smooth and appropriate. It’s a big, round mouthful of beer and drinks bigger than its abv suggests. A very good beer. I’d be interested in seeing how it ages, but I wouldn’t be shocked to prefer this one fresh.

Bottle at Leighton’s Beer, Bocce and Boozer tasting, thanks to the man himself. It pours hazy amber, with a thick beige head. The nose is varnish, resin, wood, musty, spice and fruit cake. The taste is resin, wood, leaf, dark fruit, varnish, syrupy, spice and caramel, with a dry, slightly boozy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Solid stuff.
